Unresolved Lore Question - did Clarissa have a Roommate in College?
Added 2025-01-15 07:03:12 +0000 UTCI never considered that she did, but it's pretty much impossible to get a dorm room to yourself as an undergrad. Since the girls have graduated college in the narrative "present" then it mostly only matters for flashbacks. For their junior/senior years she'd probably get an apartment with Lyta and Miyuki, since at UCB the dorms kick you out then, they may or may not keep a fourth person. Consider:
While not having a roommate seems like a situation where more privacy = more nudity, she would in fact just get nude in front of her roommate, and some new CFNF/ENF options open up.
Existing characters that work with no issues: Alli McKenna, Vanessa Monteiro, Maya O'Shaughnessy. Sara Nakamura works, but I feel like she's wrong for it.
(Miyuki's calls Alli "Elder Sister" in the Oracle Sword, but she could just be a month older. Also, they flirt a bunch, so maybe something happened in college?)
Existing characters that don't work: Selena and Sunny (roommates with each other, went to school in LA), Stacey (went to school in LA), Akiko and Nikki (too young, roommates with each other), Kiana (girls met her on New Year's), spygirl Erica (a little older, went to school in Canada). Miranda (presumably a little older, but also a secret government supersoldier, would not have a roommate).
Existing characters that could work but there are issues: Kelly Kowalski (doesn't believe in the supernatural, ninjas, etc., which she would after living with Clarissa for a few years), Lili Wu (I don't feel like the girls would know her socially - and she can barely tolerate their nonsense), Angela (is a centuries old succubus, why would she go to college now for no reason), Raven (immortal spirit, ditto.) Mepara Midnight (if she's been on TV for a few years she's probably slightly older. And my plan was always to have the girls be a little starstruck by her, even though she hosts bad movies on late night TV. Although I think casual Mepara studying for her statistics exam is funny somehow.)
Next holiday pic is coming in a day or two, should be on track to finish by EOM.

2025-01-20 15:48:40 +0000 UTCSo they all have advantages - no roommate makes Clarissa a more mysterious character, and we don't have to explain why we've never seen the fourth girl hang out with them in the "present" (although maybe she just lives in a different part of the country). An Existing Character would give some development to one of the other characters. Since they mostly were conceived as "additional ninja" "Miyuki's Co-worker", etc., although I do try to give them their own personalities as we see them more. And a shiny new character would be a shiny new character, of course.

It's only really a problem when I've committed to a holiday pinup or something, the day's approaching, and I don't know who I'm going to draw. In this case it just lets me know there isn't really a popular consensus one way or the other.
