The Raven
Added 2023-11-03 07:53:13 +0000 UTCA new character, but actually an old one, see also the previous versions. Anyway, she'll be a character mostly in Selena's orbit, since she's adjacent to the Aztec mythology theme. (I do have plans for her in The Sinister Idol as well though).
Further notes:
She is a raven (species) or "the Raven" (supernatural phenomenon) and Raven is also her name, or as much a name as she has, so that's what the other characters call her.
She looks a lot like Selena, so I'm considering giving her unusually colored eyes, but I'm not sure. Actual ravens have all black eyes, which would make her look kind of demonic.
Her hair is a long braid - I haven't yet done a back view.
She doesn't belong to any particular nation because ravens are everywhere and everyone has raven stories. So she might appear with the northwestern mask here, maybe with a Kachina mask instead, although mostly just in her modern human disguise. She speaks all the languages, even those thought to be extinct.
In theory she might be a Nordic raven as well. The Native American raven stories I've been looking at generally have a similar character where the raven is a trickster, out for himself (generally a him, this one's a her though) but sometimes altruistic. Norse ravens are messengers and oracles, wise more so than clever.
She's not as powerful as Quetzalcoatl, who is, in fact, a god. She treats him respectfully, like an older family member.
Like Quetzalcoatl, she doesn't fully understand humans so her interactions with people are often a bit strange.
Her clothes are magical and she can change them at will; she'd normally only be nude on purpose. However, losing her magic will leave her as a regular person, mortal and naked, with no choice but to stay at Selena's apartment until she gets her magic back. When asked why she isn't turned into a bird, the other spirits refused to elaborate and left.
Regular corvids are drawn to her and will perch on her shoulders, and she is friendly with them in turn.
Anyway, I've been at this for a while (since 2010 apparently).

In universe, Lyta and Selena are supposed to look very much alike, except Selena has darker, straighter hair, and is slightly taller (Lyta's only 5'4" which is too short for a pro model or actress). Raven actually has differently shaped eyes from them, although it might be too subtle to be noticeable. Since she's magical, though, she can easily convince normal people that she's someone else.
