Sweeter Than Fiction is the first song Taylor wrote and produced with Jack Antonoff and it was for the soundtrack of a biographical film called One Chance, about opera singer Paul Potts who won the first Britain's Got Talent in 2007. Btw, I've seen him live (though it was a long time ago) and he was AMAZING! He was played by James Corden and I know there are a lot of jokes about him and movies, mainly musicals (Cats 😂), but I think he was really good in this. When Taylor was asked to write a song for the film, she was reportedly "so moved" by especially the portrayal of Paul's relationship & marriage to his wife (the song is an ode to their love story) and she agreed. It was nominated for a Golden Globe. She re-recorded it on 1989 Taylor's Version in 2023, even though it wasn't on the album originally, but it was around the same era (the song was released in 2013 and 1989 in 2014). She only performed it live for the first time (and only time so far) in a mash-up with Holy Ground (from Red) at the Eras Tour in Amsterdam on July 6th 2024: https://youtu.be/qaSKS62cCFM?si=54wZT185T5G7AQf3. Though she did sing a little bit of it during an interview back when it came out, that doesn't really count. Still, it's funny watching it now because Taylor kind of "predicted" folklore and evermore: "It's almost a relief to get to take the perspective off of yourself and kind of focus in on what someone else's motivations might be and on what someone else's feelings might be, because you're writing from someone else's perspective at that point and, for me, I almost never do that. 2025-06-10 15:34:44 +0000 UTCspecifically it’s just so queer summer coming of age film and beautifully shot and especially as a young lgbtq+ member i’ve never felt super in touch i guess with myself in that way, as in i’ve never really been particularly open about it though i wouldn’t say i’m in the closet but like my family doesn’t know, there’s something about watching this mv that was so beautiful and open and authentic and it got me emotional ughh and i’m 20 now but i still haven’t really experienced young love idk i just loved the mv from conan
