Cobble Stone Base, Bones and a Purple Vase

Hi fellow Wizards and Necromancers!

In this tutorial we will continue painting the beautiful Plague Monk model from the new Skabikk Plaguepack – I will show you I’ve painted one of the bases from this kit, covering the topics of the Cobble Stones, Bones and a Purple Vase. Explanation on layer and glaze consistency is below. A PDF version of this tutorial is attached below. Let’s get into the tutorial!

1.  We will start with a layer consistency basecoat of the base with black. 1-2 coats of paint will be enough.

2. Next, we will use a 1:1 mix of black and Warm Grey (from AK Interactive) as a drybrush on the entirety of the surface of the base.

3. We will follow the previous set of highlights with a drybrush with Warm Grey.

4. Next, we will apply a 1:1 mix of water and Seraphim Sepia Shade over the entirety of the base.

5. Next, we will use a 1:1 mix of water and Coelia Greenshade on a few of the stones, to differentiate them and make the base look more interesting.

6. Next, we will use Seraphim Sepia on a few other stones.

7. Next, we will use layer consistency Warm Grey to edge highlight all of the stones.

8. In this step, we will start painting the bone. We will do that with glaze consistency Ivory (from AK Interactive). You want to build the highlights on both ends of the bones and in the middle.

9. We will follow that with a layer consistency highlight with a 1:1 mix of Ivory and White on the areas that are sticking out the most, so on all of the edges.

10. Next, we will apply a coat of Seraphim Sepia on the sides of the bone, to showcase that it is old and aged.

11. Next, we will add the final highlights with white on the very brightest spots on the bone, so on the edges on both ends and in the very middle.

12. Now it is time to paint the vase. We will start with a basecoat of Xereus Purple, layer consistency.

13. Use a glaze consistency 1:1 mix of black and Xereus Purple to add shading on the bottom and top parts of the vase. We do this to create contrast between the shadow and highlight.

14. Next, we will use glaze consistency Screamer Pink on all of the edged and towards the top part of the main body of the vase, to add visual interest and variation of the color in the purple.

15. Next, we will use a 1:2 mix of white and Xereus Purple in glaze consistency, to paint all of the edges. You also want this to appear on the top part of the main body of the vase. I have also sketched a orb in the area where the shadow meets the highlight, to showcase that the light is bouncing off in that area. This is optional, but it looks cool!

16. Use a glaze consistency 1:1 mix of White and Xereus for the next set of highlights. Apply them on the same areas, but more sparingly. Remember, every next set of highlights has to be smaller than the previous one, so that the previous one is still visible. This will create a smooth transition between all of the colors.

17. Next, we will add more white to the mix, so it will be a 1:2 mix of Xereus Purple and white, in glaze consistency.

18. In the final step, we will use pure white in glaze consistency, to create the brightest highlights in the very brightest spots. Apply this very sparingly!

Thank you very much for supporting me – it means the world to me! I dream of being able to paint and make tutorials full time, so if you like my Patreon – please tell your friends about it. It would make a massive difference to me and hopefully it will be beneficial for your friends too :)

*Layer consistently = paint mixed in a 1:1 ratio with water.

*Glaze consistently = paint mixed in a 1:3 ratio with water.

Best wishes,
