Road to Golden Demon 2024: Part 2

Hello everyone. Here is Part 2 of my progress on Trugg for Golden Demon. I have already started to record the next parts with the antlers and the main body. After reviewing the footage some of it ended up less than satisfactory for the face so I realise there is some missing bits like the highlights on the nose but I needed to get the video out and the editing really eats up a lot of time on a project like this. There will be lots more painting of skin for the main body and I will try to do a better job recording and editing this.

PDF tutorials will finally be on the way in the next couple of weeks and will become part of a regular monthly addition to the Patreon. We have almost finished work on a test one and I'm really excited to see what everyone thinks. The plan is to steadily work through older videos and convert them over to the PDF format and there may be some additional useful information included as I complete the write ups for them.

I would also like to start including a monthly livestream catch up here on the Patreon, so if you have any questions about miniatures, painting or anything else it's great opportunity to ask them there and I will do my best to answer.

This series of videos is incredible. It’s a joy to watch seeing the piece develop, your approach and your technique. Thank you for taking the time to share this.

Great Video! Any chance you can start including some high res pictures in addition to the videos. The video quality is great but I’m having trouble really seeing the texture when I pause and zoom in. For example I would love to see a picture of the tongue texture as well as the texture on the nose. These pictures would be great to look at when trying to replicate your techniques. Thank you.

I like the contrast of the lips. This is turning out really good. Great work!

Amazing work! Can’t wait to see this at GD! 😍

Thank you Hellglazer! I don't think I have seen a proper conversion chart for AK/Citadel the conversions I made in the video are just based on my experience using them and comparing them to the Citadel equivalent. If you do have a good conversion chart I would love to see it as like I say I really like the AK paints.

Hello Rob, thank you for the comment. The wet look isn't really something EM would push as much for the box art because of time and consistency reasons mainly. With this project I want to push things a bit further as I did with the Mangler Squigs as it's for a competition entry. So using the EM Style, sharpness and readability but pushing the volumes in places a bit further.

Thank you for the comment. I definitely have a habit of getting side tracked and biting off more than I can chew which is something I'm trying to work on. The Lion will be finished after Essen as I am planning to take it to US GD next year. It's difficult sometimes because I want to create varied content that appeals to as many people as possible as well as trying to keep up with recent releases and some larger projects are very time intensive to both record and edit. But I have by no means abandoned those projects.

This is some Soper level stuff!

Fantastic to see transparency in the process. Most people assume these things are linear. Meant to ask... Did you find an AK conversion chart for citadel? Just makes learning a new range that much easier when you know what you're used to.

Yes to the clan rats

Beautiful work. Is the wet look on the lips something the Eavy Metal team used? It is reminiscent of the work of Spanish painters like Aythami Alonso and Arnau Lazaro.

Loving this series!! I was wondering if you plan to finish both the lion, the herald of nurgle and the kroot, I really would love to see them finished. Also do you still plan to make this vídeo about preparing and assembling minis?? I’m really interested to see how you tackle gaps when putting together painted sub-assemblies :) Thanks!

I am loving the series of videos. It’s nice to see a gd entry being worked on and understand the thought process going into the colour palette and changes being made when you’re not happy with the result
