Greetings, Folks!
This map took me on quite a journey, starting with a concept inspired by the rich aesthetics of games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls. It evolved significantly from my initial vision, leading to a bit of hesitation before sharing it with you. Fortunately, a seasoned mentor and friend provided valuable feedback, and I'm eager to see if this creation aligns with your expectations. Your comments and feedback are always appreciated, so feel free to share your thoughts.
So, what does this phased map bring to the table?
About the map.
Picture a serene and abandoned location atop a raised cliff. The surroundings exude tranquility with green grass, the warmth of the sun, and a solitary stone tower standing tall. As you step into the expansive room with a wooden floor, a winding staircase beckons, albeit cluttered with debris.
Yet, the room itself seems off, emanating an unsettling vibe upon entry. The real intrigue unfolds as you ascend. On the upper floor awaits a seemingly ageless, lonely tree, sprouting without the presence of soil or dirt. Its sinister aura becomes palpable, stifling your breath.
Here's where the twist hits.
If you manage to lull your players into a state of drowsiness, they'll awaken to a jarring scene. The once lush green tree has transformed into an old, decaying trunk, with every leaf now melting into liquid resembling blood. Something shattered the enchantment, causing rapid decay throughout, even on the lower floor. It's the perfect moment to make a hasty retreat before being ensnared in this nightmarish reality.
For those seeking a dynamic encounter, phase a battle with three distinct stages of decay on the lower floor, where Adventurers might encounter some mischievous Mad Caps.
And yes, this is HEAVILY inspired from a quest in Baldur's Gate (which I own while I'm craving to find a moment to play again) - Guess which one :D
And now, it is time to collect your...
Btw, I didn't want to create duplicates of the same map so, following a suggestion from one of you made in the past, I've crafted the top floor as a standalone PNG with a transparent background. You can easily overlay it onto the map.
