3500 years ago (1500BCE): In India, up in the Himalayas, a yogi walking past a Shiva statue, “All that I see is an illusion created by my senses. The true reality is that we are all one continuous, eternal field of conscious energy, called Brahman.”
1500 BCE: In Europe, “Sorry, I am busy creating “civilization” and bronze weapons. Don’t have time to think about this Universe stuff.”
450 BCE: In Greece, “I have figured out how the Universe is made. Everything is made up of just four elements in varying combinations: earth, wind, fire and water.”
100 BCE: Roman, “What the Greek dude said. Earth, wind, fire and water.”
450 CE (Current Era): Europeans, “Yup, still earth, wind, water and fire. Those Greeks were brilliant.”
1700s: European, “Sorry, my bad. Not earth, wind, fire and water. But still “elements”. Like Phosphorus, Hydrogen, Oxygen and a handful more we are discovering as we speak”.
1800s: European, “Still “elements”, but more than a handful, I’m afraid. We are approaching 100, and counting.”
Early 1900s: European, “Sorry, not elements. The Universe is made up of just three things: electrons, protons and neutrons.”
1905: Einstein, “Guys, all particles of matter are actually just concentrated bundles of energy. E = mc2.”
Early 2000s: Scientist in Switzerland, walking past a statue of Shiva at the entrance to the Large Hadron Collider, “The entire Universe, including empty space, is actually just a vast continuous field of energy. Tiny quantum vibrations in that field, interacting with consciousness, give rise to reality as we know it.”
2021: Indian yogi up in the Himalayas, “As I was saying…”
