As per this post (https://www.patreon.com/posts/re-puritanical-100585325) about the awful state of Patreon for adult creatives at the moment, and a recent ban-wave that hit some high-profile creators, I've decided to create a SubscribeStar!
SubscribeStar offers a ranged of benefits compared to Patreon. These include, but are not limited to:
Better rates for payouts, so I can charge in USD instead of GBP, which is cheaper for most of you guys by a little bit.
They won't spontaneously nuke years of work just because I had the gall to write about dudes touching.
There are a couple negatives though:
PayPal is not supported. This is because PayPal and Visa are the ones responsible for having projects banned. Payments are done through Debit and Credit card instead, which I know is a bit of a pain.
No Itch.io integration. I'll be providing downloadable files every week, but the play-in-browser version of the game will be limited to Patreon.
Fees for non-USD payments. I'm not sure how these compare to Patreon's, but I've heard that using SubscribeStar as a Brit is less economical than using Patreon, so your mileage may vary.
Ultimately, I encourage you to pick whichever one is cheaper and more convenient. I'm endlessly grateful for your support, regardless of where it comes from. Hopefully, Patreon will leave me alone and the SubscribeStar will function as a kind of "backup" in case the Patreon is nuked, and offer me a bit more security while I continue towards the 1.0 deadline in August.
