GameDev Log #12

Hey yall time for another dev log, i think it's been a month since I've done one of these but I feel a lot has happened for me to be able to make another one of these since I don't wanna spam anyone!

Game Log:

Lately I've been thinking about throwing in the towel and swapping "our frozen hearts" to ren'py instead of godot, when I first started these projects it was fun to write and make all the chapters but as I keep working, my work load increases and so do the bugs. All of it is still fun but it can be discouraging when all I check online is people complaining about bugs that i've been trying to fix(not talking about you who actually give me good criticism and feedback), I'm scared I'm writing this whole story just for you guys to not be able to play it, Besides that though, I'm happy with the story so far, I'm not sure how well you guys will like the introduction parts for day two, But I do know it'll be very unique compared to the mainline game. Just know there is a story from start to finish and I'm gonna have fun with the scenes in between that start and finish!

As for the main game dtf, you guys had felilia and felix for chapter 14 and I'm kinda glad you guys did that because I had this fun idea for suki's first patreon chapter but now I'll try to do it in this chapter if I get the chance, Speaking on the game tho, I'm grateful for your guys support on it, you all are very kind for staying around even when it feels like a system failure for me, Luckily tho the story for the character doesn't end with that game so even if it's a little disappointing towards the end of it's lifespan, it really helped me learn how to do this whole game dev thing and meeting you all! I occasionally get comments saying people would prefer this game/story on another engine so hopefully the sequel is a net postive for everyone around :).

Speaking on the sequel, I mentioned this in another post but I had to go back to the drafts with it just because somethings weren't working and others didn't mix well, it's not that using another engine is harder but more like different, I'm sure i'll get better at it the more I use it, However saying all this dtf2 feels like something I can change more easily while being able to provide more content, The only thing I'm struggling with is the schedule of updates, ideally i'd like to do bi weekly once it comes out to the public but we'll see when we get there.

Dev Log:

On the Dev part of things I think I hit the curve in drawing, the part where you start getting a lot better, although that may just be my ego however I'm thinking of uploading some drawings and stuff in the near future, I'm still learning traditionally right now but eventually I'm going to move to digital so I can do more pixel art as well. I'm not an ai hater and I really like how felicia looks in the images but I like to imagine in a few years where I could make games not having to rely on ai images. when I first started doing doodles, they felt more personal to me then any image I created using ai.

Don’t worry, I’m not ditching AI or suddenly turning against it. AI has been a super helpful tool, and I wouldn’t be where I am now without it. What really started changing things for me was getting better at using AI itself — editing images, testing seeds, prompts, inpainting. One day I just asked myself, “Why am I spending all this time improving this?”

I’ll still be working with AI — I’m not done with it — but now I’m giving more time to drawing too. I’m not someone who’s going to heavily edit or over-polish AI art. When I first started generating images, it was exciting; the truth is, I don’t want to fall out of love with Felicia and the rest of the cast. If I keep going down a path that burns me out, I worry I’ll end up bitter — and that’s the last thing I want.

End Bits:

This DevLog is a little more sad but I feel like things are looking up, I like to think one day I'll go back to this log and see how much I improved, thank you all again for your continued support, I think if it wasn't for you guys I'd be dead right now so I only feel the need to continue improving, see you guys again during the day two update!

Any progress, no matter how small, is still progress. I know for my pixel art, I've been using A.I to get an image, then I lay a grid over it, and fill in the squares lol.
