You guys all made good points and were kind of right. When RM was talking about feeling like he lost his grasp on BTS after Dynamite, I think it was because they had NEVER planned on doing a song entirely in English. Then even mentioned this in interviews. It was because of the pandemic, they wanted to put out something to reach fans globally, something peppy and energetic, with no real message, just an upbeat sound. They reached out to songwriters, and this is one of the few songs they didn't have a hand in writing. They actually tried to put in a few Koren lyrics, but nothing seemed to fit, so they recorded and released it all in English. This song went #1 everywhere and was their first Grammy nomination, (not in a K-pop only category), for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance". Then because the pandemic was still ongoing months later, they looked for another upbeat, 'summery' song. Thats when they found Butter. RM did have a hand in rewriting some of the rap lyrics this time, but again, it was another all-English song. And again they were nominated for a Grammy. And a few months later, they got Permission to Dance from Ed Sheeran. Now they did put out an album after Dynamite, ("BE", it has some really great songs on it that they performed during the Permission to Dance in LA show, like "Blue & Grey" the one where they sang to their reflections), they never intended to release this. They got songs that members were planning to use on their solo albums, they just wanted to give their fans something during a time where everyone was separated and alone. So while all these English songs might have expanded their global reach, I think it turned some fans off, and RM might have been feeling like BTS was going in a direction he was not expecting to go and was starting to feel a little lost, unsure of his (and BTS's) place in the world.
