RISE OF BANGTAN | Chapter 01: Deleted Scenes

I like this... There’s a Korean word that beautifully captures what it means to live with emotional balance, connection, and the joy that can be found in art and nature. That word is pungnyu (풍류). And whether they name it or not, BTS carries this spirit through their music, performances, and global community. They, and we, in turn, are living out this age-old Korean idea: that beauty, meaning, and belonging are not luxuries but how we stay human. Pungnyu literally means “wind and flow.” Centuries ago, Korean scholar-artists would gather to play instruments, write poems, and drink tea under the moon. But pungnyu wasn’t just about culture—it was a way of life. One early description from the Silla era calls it the art of “making friends and living together in harmony” (교유이생). At heart, it’s about sincerity, connection, and balance—a way of being with oneself and others. BTS brings pungnyu to life in a way that feels fresh, real, and global. They don’t just perform. They invite. They reflect. They build a space that’s rooted in empathy and emotional honesty. BTS shows us this in songs like Yet to Come and Spring Day. These songs don’t offer easy answers—they hold complexity with care. This kind of emotional duality is deeply rooted in Korean culture: the generational grief of han (한) and the communal joy of heung (흥). Pungnyu holds both and more—and so does BTS. Their music gives us permission to feel everything, without apology. Moreover, pungnyu has never been about one tradition. It mixes Buddhist compassion, Confucian virtue, Daoist flow, and the euphoria unique to Korean folk, like bibimbap (비빔밥). BTS does the same. Hip-hop and Korean sentiment, Western psychology and pop—they blend it all, but they never lose who they are. And holding it all together? Think of it like gochujang (고추장)—the bold, red chili paste that brings bibimbap to life. For BTS, that’s their authenticity. It’s the heat, the heart, the part that makes everything stick and taste like them. Why does this matter? We’re living in a time that often feels rigid, fast, and divided. The world rewards performance over presence, control over care. And in that world, BTS’s expression of pungnyu offers us something deeply human. They remind us that friendship, art, and emotional honesty are ways to resist being dehumanized. They’ve taken an ancient way of being and made it breathe again—in stadiums filled with ARMY bombs, through moments of Namjooning, in lyrics that cross the language barrier. So maybe pungnyu isn’t something we have to study to understand. Maybe it’s something we feel when a line hits us just right. When we walk through a park and rest in nature. When we find comfort in one of their songs. When you see someone online and think they get it too. That’s pungnyu. That’s the harmony. That’s the happiness, quietly flowing between us. Yes, I was just about to say this. They miss the POINT of why these clips made it to Rise of Bangtan because they’re too busy chatting amongst themselves. And then they hit PLAY and don’t even rewind it a bit or care to immediately read the captions to see what the clip is about. They just let it play and just notice what they notice. Like they’re not really WATCHING to get the message. I think it comes off a little careless, in my opinion. Even if that’s not the intention. Lol!

Exactly. The idea that older ones are respected and those of the same age are equals is really true. That’s why V and Jimin fought the most, while Jungkook, being much younger, was treated more leniently by everyone. Seokjin, as the oldest, is also respected, but since he tends to present himself in a friendly way, he doesn’t come across as someone who enforces a strict atmosphere. The way Jungkook is loved is really interesting. Even RM once wrote him a letter saying, “You were the youngest, so i wasn't sure how to treat you .” This really shows how deeply the age system is ingrained in their mindset and perception.

Guys don’t bother too much trying to figure out the Korean age system 😂 It’s mostly only important to how it relates to the use of honorific’s & whether someone is expected to defer to another person. But in general anyone born in the same year treat each other the same & anyone younger is expected to defer to anyone older & use the appropriate honorific’s.

In episode 14, a video related to Jimin’s Lie will be shown., I’m so excited! It would be nice to check out the Hwayangyeonhwa(most beautiful moment in life) series songs later. You will probably learn more about them while watching the documentary, but that was the moment they started receiving many awards and gaining widespread recognition. Vocal is👌🤌 It would be nice to consider it after watching the documentary.

I think in terms of age, in Korea they just look at the year you are born. So for example, Jimin and V were both born in 1995, so they are equals in hierachy. Jin was born Dec 1992 and Suga was March 1993, even though there are only about 3 months between them they are different years, so Jin is a Hyung (older brother) to Suga. When someone is older or more senior to you, you are supposed to use honorific forms of speech towards them, but they can speak to you in more casual forms of speech.

It bothers me a little that they insist on talking about topics that have nothing to do with, because after they start they can't concentrate anymore on the video and keep talking about it until Ben tries to draw attention to the video again. Yesterday I started a new reactor channel (@AngyandRaphReacts) and realized that they actually care about discussing the message that the music wants to convey and always stop to discuss some line of the song that they think is amazing, I'm not saying that the boys should change their way or something like that but it frustrates me a little this issue of reactions being superficial because they are always distracting themselves and focusing on something different. "Oh, but the channel is theirs and they do it the way you want" Yes, I agree! I have to explain this bc i think you guys missed it, but the reason why Taehyung was missing from the vlogs, was bc the company decided to keep him hidden. He was actually in the same room as them when they were filiming the vlogs but wasn't aloud to come infront of the camera. I love you TT guys but please focus more on the video you are reacting to. I honestly don't mind your banters and teasing each other but to some degree. A quick explanation for the Korean age system debate. The honorifics you use depend on the year you were born. For example, in BTS, Jin is only three months older than Suga, but because Jin was born in late 1992 and Suga in early 1993, Suga calls Jin “hyung.” If you’re born in the same year, you’re considered “chingu” (friends) and can speak casually to each other. Guys I understand your dynamic, but even I forgot what you were reacting to with 90% of the video being off topic banter, and I already know the content. I appreciate tho that you're trying to make everyone happy by watching Deleted scenes too. Starting episode 3 there are deleted scenes and bonus content (bonus content is the more chaotic/funny content type)- if you started deleted scenes you will get a billion messages to watch the bonus content too. When you asked "where was V", if you remember, in the first episode he was not there much, as they kept him a secret member until debut, and with you going back to deleted scenes episode one, you went back again in the timeline. I suppose there may be some confusion in the future too, just sayin 🙂

The Deleted Scenes are generally more informative content or performance stuff. The Bonus Scenes are usually funny stuff. But Ep. 1 doesn't have bonus scenes. The rest do! They're both really great bits of extras. Lots of content that doesn't come up for a lot of ARMYs until they're 3 years deep.

While this concept is correct, I've never heard joon call hobi hyung and if he has, it wouldnt have been serious at all. They're born in the same year so the hyung honorific wouldn't apply to those two. A younger male would call an older male hyung even if the older male was only a week older than him, but he would have had to be born in the previous year. Yoongi and Jin are only 3 months apart but Jin is his hyung (1993 vs 1992) whereas joon and hobi are 7 months apart but same age friends (both born in 1994).

Totally agree with missing out on Jhope's part of the video. While I love your banter 99.9% of the time (it's fun!), the timing coincided with Jhope's log about getting zero messages from fans. I imagine it to be heartbreaking for him and that's why he (and the other members) value ARMY so much. Every time I see it I feel like I wanna travel back in time just to spam him all the fan letters I can. It was an integral part of his journey. I think maybe next time you need to, instead of simply pausing, play it back a few seconds earlier to make sure you don't miss out on anything, thanks! Yes Ben even if they are only months older than you, you would still call them Hyung (older brother) eg. J-Hope is 7 months older than RM but RM still calls him Hyung sometimes. In saying that it's the older persons discretion to decide if they want honorifics applied to them. Also V was missing from the group vlog because he wasn't introduced to the public yet

I'm definitely a loud sneezer. But sneezing like that stuff is hard to control and seb only sneezed onces. Mine comes in 3s. But yeah as others have said Vs is Hella loud. Don't feel too bad, my best friend of well now it's been 18 years we've known each other, I just memorized her bday like 3/4 years ago. She was born March 24 but I always get it mixed up with April. Tbf her middle name is April because she was adopted in April so for all those years I was stuck on April. Congrats guys! You deserve it!
