I recommend watching it on your own too coz sometimes they chat over important details and miss a lot. They didn’t even turn on the captions in the very beginning and missed the whole backstory of BTS winning Rookie awards in 2013. That’s huge! Yes, they worked hard to get where they are, but this also tells us that they were exemplary even from the start. They came out busting through the gates. 🔥 BTS were known as Rookie Monsters for a good reason.

Am I the only one screaming “Turn on Captions!!!” Like how much of that beginning did they miss without captions. Guys, please pay attention to what you’re watching. I know it’s open for interpretation when you watch the boys, but you don’t know what you don’t know. In previous Rise of Bangtan I noticed you missed the caption that said when artists release new music after debut, it is called a comeback. Which is VERY different from Western concept of a comeback.

i would recommend American hustle life only if you want to experience extreme secondhand embarrassment in every episode. BUT its such a great concept- to understand that hiphop is actually a part of black culture and not just wearing a jersey and perming your hair into an afro it really shaped bts' music and style. yes they all rapped, yes they danced, yes they struggled in their own ways but how hiphop and rap is used in kpop is largely just an aesthetic rather than resonating with the lifestyle (which is why Coolio was so pissed in the clips) you also need to realize that BTS are nobodies at this time! they are strong rising star rookies! Psy' gangnam style only came out maybe two years before this so kpop reaching a global audience was fairly recent too

I always recommend American Hustle Life, because in the end I think it was a good experience for the boys and they even say that themselves, in fact at the PTD concerts they talk about that time, so they haven't forgotten that time. Having said that, there were definitely some scenes that were hard to watch for different reasons. I think especially now to see them so young back then, it's hard to witness people being 'mean' or appearing to be mean to them. I personally feel like some of it was the translation issues, which doesn't necessarily excuse it, but I'm not sure if Coolio, especially in that first interaction realized how little English they really knew, because I think he was taking their "dear in the headlights" look or blank looks as not taking Hip Hop seriously when the truth is, many of them really didn't understand what he was saying. I also believe that at the end of the day they all knew they were filming a reality series and some of that was for show. I do think that was Coolio's personality and he would treat anyone like that, not just them, and honestly there were some nice moments too with Coolio. If memory serves the incident that happened in the beginning (you guys have not seen it) but it's the reason many people won't watch it, I do think it was too much and those who decided to start the show that way didn't think it through. I've heard that RM called either his parents or Bang PD (also it's important to note that this was not a BigHit reality show, this was done by a TV station in Korea) to let them know what happened and how it affected them all and I heard somewhere that those that he called then called someone and I think one of the mentors didn't come back and their attitude was not as harsh, and also that they were promised that what happened would never happen to them again. This is an interesting thing to note, because there is an incident I think in a season of Bon Voyage and the guys get in a van and they don't know where they are being taken and one of them says, "you told us you wouldn't ever do this to us again," apparently that was referencing American Hustle Life. What's important is that true to BTS character, they know how to make the best out of everything and that's exactly what they did. But there are some super classic moments in the series, like watching them trying to get the girls to come to their MV is just so cute and funny. Anyway, bottom line, I think it's something to watch, if for no other reason than to show you exactly what you already gathered from the little you saw. They worked so hard, never gave up, and had the best attitudes. They 10000000% deserve every accolade and ounce of success they have now, they EARNED IT. There is only one bad part in AHL and that was the treatment of Jin he didn’t deserve that at all. The rest of the comments are being dramatic af and acting like BTS were just weak and abused. They were trying to be hip hop. Hip hop is not gonna hold your hand. This show is probably one of the reasons BTS built tough skin. American Hustle Life my Shaylaaa <3 I've said it before but yes you absolutely should watch AHL you would really enjoy it! Yes there are some iffy moments, but BTS does value the experience and it did teach them so much. I think the good parts are REALLY good and outweigh the bad, in my personal opinion.

I love watching American Hustle Life, especially because when they are sitting in that grassy park area at the beach in Long Beach, I lived one block inland from that spot for 15 years. You guys have to watch American Hustle Life, in order to understand the context of what went on in the LA trip….its not easy to watch but most armies will agree it’s good to watch it to really get a true understanding of where BTS come from a lot of their humbleness and music beliefs stem from ‘American Hustle Life’. Warning first few episodes are hard to watch because of how the boys get treated but after that it gets easier and actually enjoyable to watch. You guys will learn LOADS about BTS after watching this it’s truly worth it🙏

Guys, I do have to say that when you talk over the video, you miss a lot of the subtitles. Every bit of that is important information that really shouldn't be missed. I love that you guys like talking about what you see, and even go off on tangents sometimes, that's what a reaction is, but could you please try to pause the video when you want to discuss something, so you don't miss something important? There's so much good information in this series, I don't want anyone to end up coming at you for not knowing something that was missed in the subtitles, but you looked away to talk about something. Just a small suggestion. Just be aware that American Hustle Life is pretty controversial within Army. There are certainly some moments where the boys were not treated great, specifically in the first 2 episodes or so. But there ARE some really great moments later in it where you can see a lot of their growth. Most of their Tutors were amazing. Most. And they did learn SO much from the experience. The show was certainly a big part of their early career and it affected their outlook on music. I do think that it is an important show to see once, if only to truly understand what they went through, but again, the first two episodes are super hard to watch. Like REALLY hard. A lot of it didn't need to happen and the network that the show aired on just wanted some drama, but went too far at the start. The boys 100% didn't need to be terrified by thinking they were being kidnapped (it was a prank, but a very bad one) and Coolio's treatment of them, especially V, is heartbreaking to watch. Just proceed with caution if you do choose to watch it and understand that a lot of Armies who have seen it, may not want to see it again because of those moments and are very sensitive to those moments. And also keep in mind with this that it is all in the past. They have made it through and moved forward.

I really wanted to punch a few people in the face especially the producers of this show. This is why BTS created thier own reality show going forward. Some of it was infuriating.

I cracked up the way youse reacted to how Coolio was speaking to Taehyung, that is such a true Army reaction, you cant help but get defensive of them when you realise how humble, kind, sincere and hard working these men are and they really dont deserve and still dont deserve the hate they get. Actually there is one of the episodes where Coolio did seem like he did warm to V in the end and couldnt help but smile. I think like alot of people in the industry even today, they do have certain opinions of the members without truly knowing them. But this does happen in life unfortunately and BTS teach us how to continue to spread love and kindness and continue to by ourselves despite that.. Did you guys really watched this entire episode without subtitles?? Like how are you gonna understand them? Ive just started watching and no one is saying anything about the subs. Oh okay, you turned the subs after 4 mins. Thank goodness. But that comment about economy seats though? Bro, not everyone can afford business class and BigHit way back was at the brink of bankruptcy. Now, they can have their own private plane but this was like before they even made money. American Hustle isnt really as fun as most of their shows but it's good. u guys can totally watch American Hustle Life if that’s something u wanna watch I feel like a lot of armys have seen it at some point. Just know there will ofc be funny & heartwarming moments but there will also be a lottt of moments that are extremely cringey or that will make u angry & defensive of the boys. V especially wasn’t treated very kindly many times & there was also a pretty messed up prank involving kidnapping(keep in mind Jungkook was literally 15 at that time) so yeah it’s something completely up to u if u wanna watch or not(: I personally hate that show😭& I think many armys feel the same way but you’d have to watch it to get ur own opinion of it lol

All the best guys watching American Hustle Life. I can't finish it. The prank, the scolding, was too much for me. Knowing the boys were not just too young at the time, they were also working so hard and pushing themselves really hard because contrary to what it may look like, they were actually really struggling at this point. This was the era where all 7 of them lived in one room. They didnt have much money. They were juggling so many things. And there were so much at stake. So my heart just cant take it watching all the hard times they get in AHL. Of course there were good moments but the hard ones were just too much for me. And it is harder to watch because BTS took everything in their stride. They are just such pure human.

American hustle life actually PISSES me off. They were so young and that kidnapping scene terrified them and it breaks my heart. Sure, they got a great opportunity to learn more about hip hop but it was definitely a harsh situation. Not gonna lie, some people would say I’m over exaggerating but I wasn’t the biggest fan of American Hustle Life when Coolio was around. The rest of the guys like Warren G and Tony were super nice; but coolio was just an a**hole; especially to V. But, American Hustle Life is what made me an absolute hardcore V bias because as you can see, his personality was charming and he did not take anything to heart. Coolio tells him do pushups, he does it without complaining. Coolio tells RM that V is a burden to him and he just laughs lightly. Actually later on in the show, he gets called the “dumb blonde” of the group which wasn’t very nice to my ears but again, V didn’t care one bit. I’m such a sensitive person that all this would’ve discouraged me, but not V😂 so yes, I have this love hate relationship with American Hustle Life but it was definitely fun to see some of the boys getting closer and learning new things about themselves. I will forever be grateful to Iris because I think the moment she complimented V’s voice meant SO much to him and he gained a lot of confidence then. V wasn’t very known for his talents during that time, but was more known for his charming personality and looks. His smile says it all and I think it was the first time he received such a compliment that meant a lot to him. You guys react the same way I do💜 I love this series so much and watching it again just makes me think about how much they’ve grown💜💜

I love American Hustle Life. First of all, it was great to see Hobi, Jin, and Tae shine--they really got a lot of love from AHL. Second, to this day the boys credit AHL with being very formative for their approach to hip hop. Personally, I think Coolio was being very fair. He saw seven kids from Korea who were wearing chains and bandanas and purporting to represent hip hop and he was reasonably skeptical. Some of the boys actually knew very little about hip hop. There's an interview in the show that's like a pre-interview when the boys are asked "what is hip hop" and Jungkook says "black" (as in the color because of their hip hop wardrobe) and Tae says "handsome." Coolio was trying to make sure that the boys understood that hip hop was more than just an aesthetic...it's political, it's cultural, it's the history of a people. K-pop's approach to hip hop has been horrible and BTS really stood out for their authentic expression of the genre. I credit Coolio and AHL with a lot of that. Beyond that, the show is just heartwarming. They get to have so many great experiences (like when j-hope and Jin are recognized on the street by fans and they were shocked bc people in Korea don't even recognize them), and Iris and Faahz were wonderful, and they had their first American concert...plus the bonds they formed with Tony and Nate (their tutors) was really wholesome. Anyway, people say it's "cringe" but part of that is just how Korea does variety shows, and the rest of it is the awkwardness of culture clash and youth. Most people who bag on it have never actually watched it. And I think every ARMY should see it at some point.

It always blows my mind when people defend reactors they don't know but call us delusional for defending BTS. Like we owe BTS more than we owe any reactor. Like I'm not someone who bullies people in comments or condones people who do, and I do think they've crossed the line into disrespectful a few times, but all that aside, reaction channel shooters are crazy to me on their face. Like why? People who are paying for the content are having a genuine reaction to it and sharing feedback. The creator can choose to take that feedback in or ignore it (or pushback against it). Feeling so strongly opposed to that natural exchange that you take the time to shoot for the reactor and bag on your fandom is just wild to me. But you do you. I think these guys will see the comments and, whether they understand the criticism or are frustrated by it, they'll have learned a little more about being a BTS reactor.

you should react to their bts monuments documentary(on disney plus) made by themselves and hear the story from them- directly the members explain a lot of what they went thru during the earlier years of their career and even the company being on verge of bankrupcy in 2014 and how that added to their pressure of wanting to be successful - bts were not heavy weights in the industry till 2015-16 many koreans didnt even know them and their albums sales were not as good as they hoped in 2014, they recieved minor awards here and there but not the major ones which would have gotten them investments in their company but it changed in 2015 and 2016 was the year they actually blew up

I wouldn’t recommend American Hustle Life. I think the best travel show to start with is Bon Voyage. That way, you can see the members and shows change over time😊 Plus, there’s a lot of stuff happening, especially in the earlier seasons. They calmed down over the years and gotten better at travelling and not losing everything.

The name of the reality guys is American Hustle Life and well....the name says all lol, basically was about learn everything or at least as much as the boys can about hip-hop culture, the roots of the genre and stuff...let's say that the fandom is divided in opinions about this reality, for some was cringeworthy, weird, Coolio was a controversial character in the reality for some people for the way he treats the guys, I personally think this was a life change experience for the boys, they learn it the hard way but sometimes that's the best way to learn, the homeless people part was really wholesome 💜, Mrs Iris was the most memorable character for me...she was very sweet and comprehensive with our guys and taught them a lot (she was the big black lady playing the piano that liked V's voice) it will be very interesting to see your reaction guys to AHL and the cultural crash between korean and american culture 🤔

I will say I started liking bts and got into them end of 2015, early 2016 and I kid you not I have never and will never watch American Hustle Life… just watching small clips of how they were treated was enough for me. Imagine you’re young and you go to a foreign country and not only do you not know the language or culture, but you get mistreated and kidnapped as a joke😪 I agree the experience helped them grow as artists and let them get a piece of hip hop culture but the other unnecessary mistreatment wasn’t it. Thank you for this reaction. Guys, you cannot go through BTS' journey WITHOUT watching their reality show The American Hustle Life. This trip that they made to LA was a vital part of their journey to becoming the biggest boy band in the world. They learned some very valuable lessons from that experience. Please do watch it before you ventured into their more fun shows like In The Soop 1& 2 and Bon Voyage 1-4. And by the way, Jimin and RM have always had a close friendship. RM in one of his more current interviews even said that of all the members, Jimin is the one he trusts the most. They live in the same condo complex and are bike buddies.

American Hustle Life started with a fake kidnapping at night that terrified the boys who didn’t know it was fake and which most ARMYs didn’t like to see. JK was only 15 (remember their Korean ages are older so when they say they’re 18, they’re not that old in western age). There’s also a guy who treats Jin and Suga so badly that both of them were furious - he disappeared after the ‘incident’. So yeah, definitely full of drama and moving moments. I think you’d like it and find it more entertaining to react to than other suggestions like Are You Sure. I found it on YouTube.

Soooo there's no need to disrespect a hiphop LEGEND to make your point. I love BTS but honestly I think this experience with hiphop made them the best rappers in Korea. You should definitely know more about the culture of something before just doing it. It could have been done differently but I think the experience taught them a lot. The Coolio bit always stresses me out 😭 My understanding is that Coolio took hip hop very seriously because it helped him escape his childhood circumstances, and so his reaction to V was from that. Not saying the resulting comments and actions towards V were right, but there was a reason. While there are a few iconic moments from the show, most Army will never recommend watching American Hustle Life…it’s really cringey. This condensed, edited version of the show in TRoB is far easier to get through and you get the gist of what they took away from the experience! That vocal coach Iris Stevenson seen practicing with Jungkook, V and Suga, she was actually the inspiration for the movie sister act 2 with Whoopi Goldberg, the movie was loosly based on her experience as a choir teacher on a school. American hustle life might have some akward moments but the boys also did get to meet a lot of good people and have some important experiences. I think its worth the watch.

I’ve watched American Hustle Life once and that was more than enough. I have no desire to rewatch it. To me, the negatives outweigh the positives. You guys haven’t even seen the worst of it. There was this whole kidnapping prank, where the BTS members were legitimately afraid what’s going to happen to them. They were so young, in a foreign country and you do this to them? There were of course some good moments, but you can watch those on deleted scenes and bonus content (which are both great, please also react to them). If you still want to react to it, I’d wait until you’ve reacted to their other shows.

You guys should totally react to BTS American Hustle Life! I know ARMY has mixed opinions about this show, but honestly, aside from the first two episodes (with the kidnap prank and Coolio being kinda mean), the rest of the series is really worth watching. YES! They were flying economy..Bighit Music was the smallest Company..They didn’t have any budget to let BTS fly on Business class..Our boys really started from bottom.. In earlier years no radio channels or vereity shows would let them promote their album because of their low budget..their performances have always been cut off from broadcast.. this was the reason Bts started to make vlogs just because to get known and promote their albums.. They have a great passion of making music, They wanted to show world that hard work always pays off!! And They never gave up till their hard work really pays off💜💜

Many did not like this episode of TROB but this to me is one of the important episodes. Yes, these young boys were subjected to what we may consider abuse from their mentors but it is the reality of what was to come for them as idols. The American Hustle Life is part of their journey to becoming BTS, the biggest boy band in the world. So yes, I recommend watching it.

they were indeed flying economy! BTS and their company had almost nothing to begin with! they literally started off from the bottom.. this was during their early debut period, not many knew them and they were not that famous.. yes coolio should not have acted that way with them and this American hustle life started off very cringe but thankfully boys did not take it to their heart cause they were brought up good and were always told to respect the elders! their giving back nature remains the same even to this day, they keep making so many donations! my humble babies!

I’d watch American Hustle Life after you’re done with their other shows. I’d say it’s their least popular but most divisive show. They did learn a lot but some questionable things happened, that Army’s are pissed about to this day. Their other variety shows are much better.

I didn’t like how they treated them and I especially didn’t like the “kidnapping prank.” I’d much rather see you react to their other shows (Run BTS, Bon Voyage, In The Soop, AYS).
