Jungkook was not the last one Jimin was the last one with the shortest training period. And unfortunately a crazy thing to think about is how it gets worse and it still is bad but many are starting to speak out about it . Not to mention Koreans count age differently so they are actually younger than they say they are. Bringing up the point of weight and comparing them to athletes Jungkook has said he ran on the treadmill while singing to build up stamina and strength he came jump run skip and all while holding crazy vocals which takes an insane amount of energy and control other idols have mentioned the same thing . Charlie you’ve made a point on an interview or maybe a behind the scenes video I don’t remember correctly where from but Jin has said out of 365 days of the year 360 of them are spent with the members many times you’ll here Jin say he’s raised Jungkook the rest of them too because in reality the kinda of really did raise him and the deeper you dive in you came see in Jungkook how much he is like the others it’s sweet .

I haven't watched TRoB in quite a while. It really is such a well-made series. If I remember correctly the girl behind the series actually works in documentary filmmaking and/or editing, so I'm sure that is why it is put together so well. I think she said that she got tired of having to tell everyone why she loved BTS so much and that's what made her start the series. It really is so well made. Also, if episode 1 made you sad, just wait, the amount of hatred that BTS has had to endure for absolutely no reason other than they were from a small company and doing so well, is just so sad and maddening. It was very cruel, and I'm glad they really were determined to show everyone who they really were. I'm not sure if you caught this part, but one of the main differences between BigHit and the other top 3 companies was that Bang PD (CEO of BigHit) who had come from one of the 3 companies was determined to do things differently. While I'm sure they were still very demanding, as he said he didn't have required time lengths that they had to spend practicing, or some of the other stringent rules that the other companies had. He allowed them more freedom, but as he also said the one requirement was they tell their own personal stories in their music. I do think that that is a huge difference in why they are successful. Plus as you can tell, even though they may not have had these stringent guidelines like some others had, they were so determined they decided on their own to work their asses off. Honestly Bang is smart, because a person usually performs better with more autonomy. Choosing to practice for 6-10 hours a day will usually produce more than forcing someone to do the same. That's just life. It's also of note that there were other trainees that were considered for BTS but they ended up getting cut, and that was hard for the group because they were friends, remember they are living together this entire time. I believe some of those cuts were probably based on how much self-determination they had because every member of BTS gives 120% and Bang and the other managers had to know that even one member not willing to give that could hurt the entire group. I will always say that it is truly a miracle, and yet I also believe destiny that they found these 7 boys/men because they work together perfectly. Although, as you will see through this series, it has not been easy. And even the guys themselves say especially in the beginning they fought a lot. But through it all they had the same goal and no matter what they didn't let those fights damage that goal. This series will help you understand why ARMY loves them so much. After watching them from such young ages and seeing everything theyve been through even if we weren't there during that time, we see it through videos and it just makes you love them more, because as you already have said, they are such nice genuine guys, but just wait til you witness even more of that from the inside. After watching this series and hopefully you will then watch the BTS documentaries that they have done, the amount of respect and love for them grows exponentially, as if that's even possible, but it is. I can't wait to re-watch this series with you.

Idol’s preparations and training is really on a different level. Even with students they undergo a lot of pressure to make sure they get good grades. I guess it is in their culture. Before Jimin went on a diet where he eats only 1 meal jn 10 days. It was his decision and hopefully no one forced him to do that. Sometimes they go on live and you can see the other members eating but he’s just there and only drinks water. But now he already realized that it’s really not healthy to go on that kind of diet. I guess this is because of the beauty standards that the society dictates.

Just remember that when the members are talking about their ages here they are using Korean age, which has since been abolished. In Korean age the moment you are born you are 1 and then you gain a year in age on 1st January each year, so Tae was born on Dec 30 and he was 1, then two days later he turned 2! Celebrating your birthday on the actual birthday is not regular thing in Korea. Jimin was the one who brought it into the group and has been called by the other members the “birthday fairy”

This was a typical thing at the time for many groups that they would have one “surprise” member. It wasn’t that other agencies would ‘steal him’ as he already had a contract signed, it was just something that was very common in that industry at the time. Those who claim the reason about him being the most popular threat are often solos or diet solos who use this as a claim of mistreatment from the agency of him and their desire for him to leave.

So amusing that in the intro part where the idol is talking about a group that will rise and take over the world was talking about his own “super” group that fizzled out very quickly. I guess you didn't notice, but V was not in there. He was already part of the group but he was kept hidden. He was not introduced until their debut, so he was just always behind, hiding while other members were doing logs. It was sad, but it was said during that time the reason was that he was the secret weapon, and he might be pirated by other agencies if he got seen.

I totally agree. As soon as a reactor starts adding in other groups, I tune out. It's hard enough to learn all about BTS without trying to also learn the names and personalities of other groups. No disrespect to any other groups, but I enjoy reactors that concentrate on only one artist - BTS. If you're fully vested in that artist, adding others diminishes all of the reactions. Some reactors watch so many idols and they love them all (impossible) and that seems disingenuous to me. Maybe because I immersed myself totally into BTS, I like when my reactors do too. Never trust a BTS member when they tell you their age😂 They’re actually 1 or even 2 years younger, but they’re used to Korean age (it’s also used in this documentary). This is an explanation I found on the internet: In traditional Korean age counting, you are considered a year old when you are born and your age increases on the first day of the New Year, NOT on your birthday. This means that a baby born on December 31 would turn two years old on January 1st.

Jungkook and Jin joined right around the the same time (after the rappers). Jin just before Jungkook. Jimin was the last to join. Jungkook is the golden maknae (youngest) member though..so he’s last in the fanchant because it goes leader - RM, and then in birth order oldest to youngest.

They were really babies at that time, and they were so genuine in their logs and stories. When Jimin was telling stories about the members, you might notice that he didn’t mention V because V was still a hidden member at that time, and they only introduced him during their debut. However, Jimin and V have been best friends since they went to school together, and they are also have the same birth year. K-pop trainees, especially during the 2nd and 3rd generations of K-pop had an incredibly hard time. They had to work extremely hard to survive and achieve their dreams. Especially for BTS, coming from a small company, they really had to work hard to be recognized since their company lacked the financial resources to promote them like the bigger companies could with their artists. I’m not saying that the 4th and 5th generations aren’t working hard, but with the rise of social media right now, any mistreatment to idols is now more easily exposed and can lead to bigger issues. If you’ve heard about how cancel culture works in South Korea, you’ll understand what I mean. Also, an interesting fact about some BTS members is that jhope almost quit BTS. Jungkook cried, and RM convinced BigHit that BTS couldn’t debut without jhope. Jimin was also one of the trainees who often ranked at the bottom and almost got cut from training every month. He even told his father at one point that he might not debut. Then Suga had an accident while working as a part-time delivery rider, which resulted in a shoulder injury. He didn’t tell the company about it because he was afraid he might be kicked out. However, it turned out that BigHit believed in Suga so much that they even paid for his school. Looking back at their past makes us incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved as a group and as individuals. They truly paved the way. 💜 Note: BTS is part of the 3rd generation of K-pop.

also little side note on some info about kpop: a lot of the kpop idols and the kpop industry in general were not taken seriously/ ridiculed bc their idols would just perform the songs. They'd usually have other people producing and writing songs for them and it kind of gave them this image of being fake. One of the reasons bts was so different was because their members actually took a huge role in producing and writing the music they put out. A lot of people ended up connecting to them through their meaningful lyrics.

Just also wanted to say , there is the Korean age , so in Korea they are a year or 2 , (depending on when their birthday is in the year) older than what their actual age is , so for example when Jk refers to himself as 16, he’s really 15 because he debut at 15 in June and came to training when he was 13 , the country doesn’t go by the Korean age anymore but as it was a thing for so long , they still are used to saying it and are most likely to continue to do so , even now , jimin would say he’s 30 when really he’s 29 , Ik it’s confusing but just keep it in mind as you could decide to do more research into it but don’t let it overwhelm you it’s just a small detail

oh i also wanted to add in reply to seb, jimin didn't have vocal lessons like the rest. he had to listen in on them and learn from listening. before his solo album, he was able to take vocal lessons and really refine his unique vocals. The vlogs are the boys’ means to reachout to the public (their fans) since Big Hit (their company) isn’t part of the 3 big companies in KPop (YG, JYP, SM Entertainment) … airtime was very limited for the boys and was allocated to the groups from the 3 big companies … BTS changed all that and put Big Hit (now Hybe) on the driving seat … and you’ll find out how they did it as you progress on the documentary … 💜😉💜

You forgot about V and RM! RM often and always wore sunglasses or glasses to hide his face as people criticized his looks the same way they did with J-hope. He was also criticized and ridiculed as a rapper the same way Suga was at the beginning. V was hidden until their debut so he felt lonely and left out as he watched all the members connect with their fans and post vlogs when he couldn’t. He also lost his grandma and when he opened up about it, people sent him death threats and death wishes, also said that he was demanding attention and even spoke ill of his deceased grandma which is so sickening. BTS members have all been through a lot to become who they are now. And honestly, I do believe that all k-pop artists have been through hell and back with emotional trauma due to the toxic k-pop industry.

Just a little note, when the members talk about their age, you need to subtract 1-2 years. In Korea, you were automatically one year old at birth (I believe it’s because they counted the time in the womb) and another year was added every New Year’s. For example, Jin and V were both born in December, so even as newborns, they were already two years old in January. So when Jungkook mentioned being 16 and graduating middle school, he was actually only 14 or 15 years old. He was basically a baby when he first started training and living with the other members🥺

In my opinion, regarding vocal training or dance, a natural aptitude helps. If you are born with a good voice, you may excel at singing; if you are born with a talent for dance, you may excel at dancing. Jungkook was born with a golden voice. J-Hope and Jimin were born with a talent for dance, but Jimin has unique moves that even J-Hope or other professional dancers cannot imitate. He always has graceful moves when dancing.

this is such a good series. our boys went through a LOT to get to where they are. you guys have no idea what they faced personally and publicly. they went through a lot of pain. emotionally, mentally, physically. but they did it for us. and that’s why we love & respect them so much. we could never give back what they’ve given to us so all we can do is continue to stay by their side & support them unconditionally. everytime armys say they love BTS, it’s impossible to not think about how BTS loves us 10x more. 💜

I can agree with you guys that k-pop and stage performances are very physically demanding just like sports, thus it’s important to be physically healthy which also includes being at a healthy weight. However, that’s not exactly what the k-pop industry asks for…just look at any k-pop groups (especially the girls). They look so fragile and underweight. The minute that a k-pop artist gains “healthy” weight, they’re put on a very strict and DANGEROUS diet. So many k-pop idols have fainted on stage before. Some were put on a “water only diet” or “ice cubes only diet”. That’s CRAZY! And god forbid a girl develops some curves—nope, she has to be stick thin. K-pop industry is SO corrupt and sadly, it always will be because Korean beauty standards alone are toxically dangerous. Jimin has been through a similar experience with a VERY strict diet and I can’t even imagine how that made him feel, when in my opinion, there wasn’t any weight to lose in the first place! Sometimes he seems too thin to me and it makes me worried. I think some of the male k-pop artists are becoming healthier where growing muscles and putting on some weight is becoming a little more common, but I don’t really have a very positive outlook on the fact that things will ever change. There’s a very high suicide rate amongst k-pop idols which makes you question a lot of things. I think “cruel” is 100% the correct word to describe the k-pop industry. It doesn’t rely on talent; if fact many kpop idols didn’t have “any” talents, but just like it was described they were “made” or “created”, which is the reason why they go through so much training before debuting. That’s not to say they all didn’t have talent; but you can’t expect to become a k-pop idol with just talent. Looks matter just as much, if not more to be honest. Many k-pop idols were told to get plastic surgery or even “forced” to get plastic surgeries to fix certain physical features when really, they were still way too young and beautiful. I’m not sure how well you know about the Korean beauty standards but plastic surgery is SO COMMON. In fact, parents even gift “plastic surgery” to their kids for graduation. That’s sickening. The reason why we love BTS so much is because they certainly broke this stigma. Also, thank you guys for actually pausing the video this time to talk, or at least going back to see if you missed anything!❤️ Happy New Year guys and thanks for the video!!🎉

And starting with "The rise of bangtan" is a good way to learn about their evolution from the beginning. The Kpop industry is a real factory with millions of applicants wanting to join it but with a lot of restrictions, compromises, sacrifices and next to giving more than 200% of themselves. And the boys have understood this very well since their beginnings. They were young, especially Jungkook who was 15 (international age) and who had a hard time being away from his parents. When we watch the show, many things are revealed to us, the relentlessness, the toughness, the combativeness of the trainees and their staff despite the detractors. Jimin will say it during an interview, he got up to go to class at 6:30 am while he trained until 4:00 am. The members had the courage to join a label that was very small and unknown at the time and that bet everything on them. You will see that afterwards everything was not rosy for them. They suffered many criticisms to which they were able to respond with their perseverance and their songs. As a voice teacher and opera singer myself, I agree with Charlie on the voice thing. I believe you can absolutely train voices to sing well, any voice, but there are those with natural talent that will always just do better and sound better to your ears. There are also people with excellent natural talent that are not “smart singers.” Like, they sound good, but can’t adjust or change their voice when you ask them to. All the vocal line of BTS are “smart singers” and can manipulate their voices. They all have a natural talent to be able to use their voices how they want to. But what sets them apart from others is that they have this natural talent but STILL WORK HARD and train. They don’t just coast on it. I’ve had students that have gorgeous voices but they can’t do languages or retain information, or I can hear the potential, but they refuse to listen or try new things. Their natural voice leans more towards one style but they refuse to try it bc they prefer another style that doesn’t fit them.

Yay!!! Thank you for starting this documentary series. This would be the 5th time (yes, 5th time) that I am watching this series. I just could not pass up not watching this with you guys. But I would like to suggest not to watch the deleted and bonus clips. There are 21 chapters in The Rise of Bangtan and you will not get through it fast enough if you watch the extras. With the documentary a little heavier than their reality shows, I think it would be great if you react to other BTS content like their concerts (a.k.a. Yet To Come in Busan) and Run BTS in between.

They all had varying trainee periods, with Jimin's being the shortest - just 6 months. 🤯 Also, all the ages mentioned in this documentary are Korean ones, so in international ages they were 1-2 years younger (at debut, Jungkook was actually only 15, Jimin and V 17, RM 18, j-hope 19, and Suga and Jin 20).

The difference of BTS to the other trainees from other companies was that the other trainees were required to practice or work a certain hours but BTS did not have a requirement to how much they practice or train. It's important to note that bts slightly diverged from the typical kpop path (and that contributed to their success). They were (are) more involved in the creation of their music, they pioneered the content that you were seeing (vlogs, connecting with fans consistently through social media, etc)., and according to Band Pd, they were given more freedom. Great! I was hoping for this! Just as info, every episode has also a clip with "Deleted scenes", stuff that is related to the episode but didn't fit perfectly in it. Starting episode 3 there is also a separate small video with "Bonus content" wich basically has funny moments in it, you will love it. Both Deleted scenes and Bonus content are a lot shorter than the episode, but very well edited. On the youtube channel there are 3 playlists, one with the episodes, one with Bonus content, one with Deleted scenes- in case you are curious to check it out. And trust us, the episodes get gradually better until the end!

Ben, not everyone did what BTS did which is to do a vlog before they debuted. They didnt have money then so they did what they could to reach out and show their journey. Artists from the Big 3 companies had people do marketing for them and their approach is nothing like BTS which is why BTS touched the hearts of people who became their avid supporters who soon were called ARMY fandom. Their company isnt famous and were even at the brink of bankcrupcy. BTS did part time jobs like backup dancers or extras for other KPop groups who were famous back then. You will see more of their journey from nobodies to legends as you continue to watch The Rise of Bangtan. Thank you for reacting to this, guys. Love this!!! And also u should know that in kpop the most common thing is that the producer writes a song and then the idols just sing it, they don't participate in any of the creative process. Bang PD (the CEO of bts) left from one of the biggest kpop companies because of that, and decided to create his own company and make a group where the idols actually participate in the creative process and make the songs. That's the biggest difference between BTS and the other kpop groups, and thats also why they try soo hard and eventually make it to where they are,people started to simpathice with the lyrics that they wrote cuz they don't wrote all love songs, they wrote about real problems in Korea (like the education system) and real problems about people of their age (cuz they were going trough that too). Thank you for this! They shine on their own but together it’s another level. They bring the best out of each other and it’s nice you’ll get to see this and their personalities also. We came for their talent but stayed for them as people. I found bts whilst going through radiotherapy in march and recovering from spinal surgeries via jk’s standing next to you video. So I’m very new to bts but binged all their content whilst recovering. They’re getting me through everything and let me escape my reality for a while x
