Quick Update, Poll, and Chat

Hello Darlings,

I know I've mostly posted artwork and chapters like clockwork, but I wanted to check in really quick and have a short chat with you all. For one, we've finally finished Queers & Queries, the first book of the Spells & Sundry series. Strap in; we're in for the long haul. If this first book felt like it ended abruptly, it's because I had to end it sometime. It's already at a quarter of a million words (about 1,000 pages of a book) and we were only a month-ish into the school year. I loved all the slow and cozyness of it all, but I had to find a breathing point.

So now that we're at this stopping point, I wanted to hem and haw about the title. At the beginning, I was torn between Quests & Queries and Queers & Queries. Obviously, I went with queers. There are no quests here, but it implies a magical setting. Most people aren't sure what queries are (questions and requests to get a book published), but I feel like queers is too on the nose? Anyways, I felt like putting it up to a vote and adding a third option for the Hell of it. Please vote below.

For a final comment, as you all probably know, the US has become a pretty shitty place for trans people. So far, you've all gotten a lot of the work that I had done before Trump's inauguration, but once that happened, by work slowed down. I still aim to get you all plenty of content, but it may be three chapters a month for a little bit instead of four. I really hope that doesn't happen, but I've got to take care of my mental health and also prepare to potentially flee the country or whatever such nonsense may await me. I hope you'll forgive me, and next month, I'll have the first chapter of Dommes & Demons posted for you all.

Kisses,

Trixie

Before this, I had been thinking, foolishly, that Queers & Queries was the title of the series. It fits so well to the pattern of Query and her story released thus far. As for a single book in the story, I have no idea from the given options. There's no one apparent thing I can pull from it to make a book name out of that won't likely continue through the series. However, I'd almost want to name the book, Melody. Though without insight into a story such as this as a whole, properly naming an individual book seems extremely difficult bordering on impossible. Anywho, I voted Queers & Queries because I like words most that match closest to their being, even if they are seemingly obvious. But containing layers of meaning in words is something I love to do. I agree with the others' comments with regard to your health. You should do what you feel you need to do. There is no forgiveness for surviving. Balance as best you can and I'm sure we will make up the difference and happily find a place with your work again. Then again and again, as change happens.

I voted Queers and Queries, probably half just because I was already familiar with it, and half just for the assonance of the words together. 'Quests' just doesn't quite land for me, and makes it sound videogame-y, somehow. Sins and Spellcraft are words which are definitely evocative of the work, but to to me, 'Queers' and 'Queries' feel much more distinctive, and it's nice to have the protagonist's name in there. Queers might well be considered on-the-nose, but I suppose when it comes to erotic fiction, there may well be a certain expectation to understand as quickly as possible what a narrative is going to be about, and 'queers' definitely seems to fit the bill to me!
