Chapter 456

“Take care of yourself.” Lexi hugged Ajax one more time before they got ready to leave the dungeon.

“I’ll only be here for a few hours.” Ajax tried to reassure her “It's not like I am clearing any of these floors.

The team spent a bit longer than intended on the previous floor but Ajax insisted on it since it was the best chance for him to experiment with alchemy on the gold he collected that he couldn’t take outside. The results of those experiments were interesting, gold was one of the worst products he had ever used when trying to create a potion or elixir. He did find out however that gold did make the more unstable mixtures go out of control almost on contact every time. That was something that might be useful in the future, certainly not something he would put large amounts of gold into.

“I have an idea about how to deal with the gold.” Anna said. “I’ll see if I can get the prince to try and get you out of the way of the dungeon break once you come out. You are carrying multiple storage rings, maybe you can slip it to him in the chaos.”

“I’m willing to try it if he is.” Ajax nodded. “If we get caught it’s not like they can say anything about it since they technically shouldn’t be taxing me at all.”

With that the group parted ways as Lexi, Anna and Xavier exited the dungeon. Ajax was dead set on speeding through the floors, it would take something very out of the ordinary to get him to prolong his stay, especially on the higher floors where the danger was very much real.

As soon as Lexi, Anna and Xavier exited the dungeon they were quickly pulled off to one side. Anna had made sure to wear a small necklace made of gold that she had in her spacial ring before entering the dungeon. Wearing it now was a test to see if the Empire knew anything about the golden city floor they had delved.

The imperial soldiers that greeted them as they exited the dungeon surprised them a little. A small army was gathered at the entrance of the dungeon and they looked ready for battle. It didn’t take long for them to realize that the army was there to prepare for Ajax’s dungeon break.

The guards were upon them in moments and they were quickly escorted away from the entrance of the dungeon. While the guards were very impatient they all kept a respectful distance and their words were very polite as they moved the trio to where the prince of Gryndor was waiting for them.

“How was it?” He greeted them with a smile from where he was sitting next to a pale looking Oliver. “We were expecting you a few hours ago.”

“Ajax found something he wanted to experiment with so we stuck around until he got done playing with his cauldron.” Xavier explained with a sigh. “Hope you didn’t threaten Oliver too much.”

“Only once or twice.” the prince said with a calm smile. “How long do you think Ajax will be?”

“A couple of hours at most, time moves faster in those higher density floors and he will be running straight from one floor to the next.” Lexi answered. “Might take a bit longer on the sixteenth floor just to not pick a hard battle.”

Lexi was trying to hide Ajax’s ability to pick out floors, the time he would be spending on the sixteenth floor would most likely be a lot shorter than the time he spent on the fifteenth as he would be looking for the most suitable mana type for the level one hundred and tens to be.

“There is the matter of your spacial rings.” the imperial crown prince mentioned with a nod towards the three new arrivals.

“Anything we gain from the dungeon belongs to us.” Anna said in a cold voice.

“That does not apply to national resources.” Solderon pointed out. “We do need to check.”

Everyone knew that it was only an excuse for them to check since they wanted information more than anything else, more specifically they wanted to know just how far the pushed into the dungeon before being forced to exit.

Much to the imperial’s displeasure, they weren’t able to find a single item from the dungeon among the groups spacial rings.

“You didn’t take anything?” Sandor asked, trying to help his father. “Were you that unlucky?”

“Just ask the question you want to ask.” Xavier dodged the obvious bait.

“How far did you delve?” Denisa asked straight forward.

“We exited on the ninth floor.” Anna answered much to everyone’s surprise. They didn’t know why she was giving away such vital information. “I’m sorry.” while her face was expressionless the tone of her words didn’t convey any regret.

While nothing could be read on Solderon’s face the same could not be said for Sandor and Denisa. Both of them winced when they heard Anna’s answer. The Empire was relying on Gryndor’s need to send their people into the Empire’s dungeons as a way to trade spots for any future access Gryndor might gain in other nation’s dungeons. The news that the most promising of the new generation won’t need access to the Empire’s main dungeon for at least a couple of decades was soul crushing for both Sandor and Denisa who would be forced to choose between stagnating their level or giving up floors.

“The situation is slated so far in your favor you don’t even need to hide your hand.” Solderon finally showed some emotion as he let out a defeated sigh. The empire was at the mercy of Gryndor. “Do you have an estimate?”

“No, my brother will handle that.” the prince answered.

Gryndor couldn’t push the Empire too far when it came to the price. If the Empire thought they were falling too far behind they would turn to war rather than wait for Gryndor to simply conquer them in a few centuries when their champions all vastly outstated the Empires.

“It doesn’t feel good, does it?” Sandor whispered to Xavier.

“What do you mean?” Xavier asked.

“Knowing you won’t become king.” Sandor clarified. “I made my piece with it a few years ago. My father is too young, the chance to delve into dungeons like this is my first ray of hope of having a chance at the crown.”

Xavier could sympathise with Sandor’s feelings on this matter. He felt very much the same way when he first found out about Ajax’s training method. The chance to delve so many dungeons had also reignited his own hopes of becoming king of Gryndor one day though he knew he would have to keep pushing himself to remain competitive in terms of strength with his younger cousins and any other siblings his parents might give him.

“It’s hard.” Xavier nodded. “It must be even harder for you.”

“You do know you have to change your focus, don’t you?” Anna asked Sandor.

“What do you mean?” Sandor asked.

“You’re not going to be able to compete in terms of combat prowess, you simply missed out on too much for your level.” Anna clarified, Sandor was already level fifty and it was true he had already missed out on the rewards from a lot of dungeon his competition might have access to. “You’ll certainly need to remain a viable fighter to continue pushing through floors but you should focus on learning to rule if you want a chance at the crown. I think Denisa has a better chance of being crowned queen as things stand.”

Unlike her brother Denisa had focused a lot on learning everything she could about ruling and developing her skills in the same direction as well. She was a competent fighter but at best average for a royal.

“It’s not a comp-” Solderon cut himself off, as much as he wanted to say it wasn’t a competition that was no longer the case. Denisa had never had any ambition for the crown but that was because she had realized a long time ago it was out of reach for her. Now that it was no longer the case she could have changed her mind.

Over the next hour or so Xavier, Anna and Lexi talked with Denisa and Sandor. Over the course of the discussion Xavier, Anna and Lexi cemented their previous conclusion that they couldn’t become friends with the imperials, this all stemmed from their different views towards the other humanoids. But they could be allies and trade partners.

“He’s out!” The shout was picked up by every platoon leader and carried over to the group. The prince stood as he and the squad that was present prepared in case they needed to extract Ajax. It turned out there was no need as Ajax was led to them in seconds, unfortunately for their plan to hide the ring in the chaos it seemed the empire were prepared enough to lead Ajax away before the dungeon broke.

“What’s the floor?” Zilfallon said, appearing out of nowhere with an excited smile and his sword drawn.

“Some kind of massive lake.” Ajax answered. “The Aquatic monsters should be easier to handle away from the water but they are still between level one hundred and fifteen and one hundred and twenty.”

Comments

To add some construction to that criticism, I think it’s been quite a while since a status update and very little information on the system as a whole. (Be it the gods or whoever created it) Yah we have been is a dungeon spree so it might pick up again soon but I’m still enjoying the story as a whole. It can sometimes seem like skills just pop up out of convenience for the character instead of him actually focusing on gaining them. (Still working on gravity mana) We just started getting back into his otherworldly knowledge with the concrete and I hope to see more of that soon with his new territory. Besides it’s not like litrpg needs to completely focus on the status anyway. It’s still about having a level up system with skills and game like stats, dungeons, and following the characters as they get stronger. One thing I could note is having a more concrete goal for the character to push towards like how many stories have some kind of demon lord to defeat or something that the character wants to do besides just getting stronger. So far he’s planning on getting a bond in the wild lands and there is a potential war with the beastkin in the future. As for him getting to lvl 100 we will need a few time skips after he settles down. He needs to get used to his stats before he starts pushing even more, it’s just how his world works that people live for hundreds of years to get over lvl 150

Litrpg is pretty new, but they all are based on math to some degree. I think Keleros story is just high Fantasy. He doesn't care for numbers or formula at all. Just makes it up as he goes along for the story progression. That's not Litrpg. That's going to be my new review. Quite frankly I'd love to see the author dispute it. It's on my favorites, a great story; but it's not Litrpg at all. Lose the tag, you failed the benchmark. From before he started this Dungeon arc, including all the achievements, new abilities, skill growth milestones, etc. to the last status page we got he's gained... 2/3 a level? That's pure fantasy. If you consider that gospel then for him to make level 100 to bond with a dragon... how many centuries or regular growth would that be? More than I left in me in RL. Who wants to be the next Donald Richardson... dead before the story ends?

Silver Beard

The question is, could he have made it to 150? It's one thing if there are boosters to help you keep from getting mobbed, Ajax is by himself. I submit Ajax made the right decision to leave after getting the most floors consistent with safety. Yeah, he should at least be in the 160s by now. He's not slaughtering whole floors using the obelisk, but he's been consistently hitting foes way above his level.

I kind of wish Ajax had pushed the envelope to 150's. Is he his own man or the prince's? Greater risk comes greater reward. The greater break would have made any machinations impossible as they'd have to choose between the saving the Capital or killing Ajax. And Ajax should have leveled at least once this time 'round. How he keeps killing these overmatched bosses and never levels is an itch I need scratched. So why isn't he significantly higher leveled now??? He's gained 1-2 levels for all the Dungeon runs? That's ridiculous. He did this last bit solo... surely that's earned him something?!

Silver Beard

seriously consider changing the last line to "one fifteen to one twenty" Surely at this level there's no reason to remind everyone it's over 100!

Silver Beard

Plausible. 🤔

I do not think it will be the imperials if an attempt would be made but someone from the beast in nations as it has been hinted several times before. The imperials would be to much at a disadvantage if a war was to break out now over an attempt on Ajax's life

Lawrence West

But everyone else left the dungeon, and for all we know he might have removed or not used his enchanted equipment against 1 mob while he was looking for a miniboss Also there's the fact he killed the first floor mini bosses for the past couple of dungeons, and probably the next couple floors as well, each of those kills was probably counted as an incident towards his bullying punishment. why would he be so reckless with those kills, unless he was pretty sure he was about to get rid of the punishment

Read Isekai

I still would have liked more el Dorado exploration. Rare alchemy ingredients, mire mana/life fruits, fountain of youth, etc

Captain Greenhat

Nope, he was partied and had the dragon gem gauntlets, like was also commented. I reallllly hope he gets it though. I think a lot of these web novel authors bring stuff up and then forget they are a thing. This novel has a lot and it seems like the author is super overly focused on Ajax's statue gardians. A lot of the things he's been getting or adding to his arsenal have been pretty clearly aimed at that intention.

Captain Greenhat

He didn't, the requirement to get it while in a dungeon is you can't be in a party, you also can't use any enchanted equipment, unless you enchanted it yourself. See chapters 177-178 for full details. We don't yet know if people leave your party once they leave the dungeon, but it seems likely

Read Isekai

Pretty sure he got it against the Ettin back in Sylvanthal.

Darien Shields

Did he achieve [Against Overwhelming Odds]? 🤔

Read Isekai

Some Guy

Having recently re read the whole series i was quite surprised and happy to find those delving rounds not actually taking to much time to read. It sure feels long winded i thaught it was dragged out before deepwood but it’s because im always wanting for the next chapter

Darkfate

Yes it is. And my most anticipated scenes in the anime should happen tomorrow...Cha sniffing Jinwoo. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Hopefully we'll see the end of the High Orc arc too. 😈 Then next week is my other most favorite scene...the "debut" of that A-ranker, on the same day as Jinwoo's debut as the 10th S-rank. 😈😈😈😂🤣

userunfriendly

Nah, they're paranoid. They'd insist on a search regardless. 😡

userunfriendly

Ahh, Ajax went easy on them with his floor choice, or at least it seems that way. Perhaps he had other reasons for choosing that floor.

Eric M

it’s about time that Jinwoo gets his rank re-evaluated, I think he was waiting until he got strong enough to qualify for s-rank before getting retested so it would just look like a normal re-awakening instead of his level up system.

Teej

Which is my prediction for Monday's chapter. 🐶. That they're going to make a run for it. 😈

userunfriendly

Yah try killing 3 squads of the kingdoms best fighters while also dealing with a lvl 120 dungeon break. They could just run for it now if they tried it. If anyone does try I’d probably be the beastkin again

Teej

Think the plan will work out after they set the president of just telling them what floor they got to? They have truth telling skills and he can just say that he didn’t get any national resources during the delve and refuse the search entirely

Teej

See my comment. I really think that the imperials are very likely to use the dungeon break to try to assassinate everyone here and now. 🤬😡😱 Thankfully there's a new episode of Solo Leveling season 2 tomorrow. 🤤😍🤩🎉

userunfriendly

Yep! 🎉🎉

userunfriendly

Literally trying my suggestion from last week about hiding a storage ring and slipping it to the prince during the dungeon break. Some kind of massive lake at lvl 120. Watch the Loch Ness monster come out of it during the dungeon break. Also kinda glad we skipped the details on the rest of his delve and just got him out of there. Finally the delving arc is over and onto the city building and wild lands

Teej

Thanks for the chapter.

Captain Greenhat

Tftc!

brennon Petersen

TYFTC! I can't believe this is the cliff I have to hang onto for an entire weekend. 😭

Kanyau

TFTC! 🐶 they wanted to know just how far the pushed into the dungeon before being forced to exit. they wanted to know just how far THEY pushed into the dungeon before being forced to exit. You are carrying multiple storage rings, maybe you can slip it to him in the chaos.” That's our Anna! If there's a way to swindle the Imperials, she'd think of it. 😈 won’t need access to the Empire’s main dungeon for at least a couple of decades was soul crushing for both Sandor and Denisa Well, if Ajax becomes Duke Goldmancer (you all forgot that, didn't you? he'd get the title if they manage to smuggle the gold out of the Empire 😂) then Anna can become Duchess Soulcrusher. Seriously, she's got a terrifying talent for psychological warfare.😈 I actually think that Xavier never wanted the throne, he wanted to become Champion. He might already have made peace with losing that to Ajax...so maybe now he's going to buckle down and study diplomacy and finance? That little dig at Sandor by Anna was priceless...while my initial guess was that the Empire valued Strength over everything else, so the most logical route for Sandor for the throne was to become a warrior, now Anna is suggesting that competency in the "ruling" arts will be more decisive...he's had to reevaluate everything, particularly his priorities. 😈 Let's hope Ajax manages to get away with all that lovely gold...Anna will breathe a massive sigh of relief if her father loses the title of Goldmancer. Even after Gryndor takes its cut ( Ajax: 😭) it will be enough to turn Hearthbound into the most profitable, and richest duchy in Gryndor. I really loved how Anna completely destroyed the self esteem of the Imperial ruling family...and then Ajax completely crushed them by saying the dungeon break is for level 115 to 120. He's revealed (and they HAVE TO expect Ajax will NOT be delving to his full capability) he's punching MORE than twice his level. That's going to shock and demoralize the Imperials, when they remember he's not even 25 yet. Now, will there be an assassination attempt? I don't know...but if the Imperials are at all smart, they're going to try to kill everyone NOW. 😱😡🤬
