Hey Lewis, really loved this one, the conversation about religion and your experiences are really fascinating to listen to

Preston

How did you decide upon Christianity and god being the higher being? I’m kinda with what you said that the concept of god has been used to do scummy things and spread hate so I am curious.

Hann Kiernan

Also incredibly sorry to hear about all the troubles in your life lately, I recently lost a friend to a brain tumour who was at a very young age. Thoughts are with you and sending my support in your healing journey

Jeremy

Really interesting podcast. I don’t rly buy into religion a lot and I think a lot of their teachings in more heavily and traditional churches promote some aspects of exclusion or discrimination. However, I do also understand that so many people such as yourself find some help and beauty in faith and I love that for you lew! Even tho we may not agree on it, I think it’s a beautiful thing that you and many others can find comfort and support in it

Jeremy

Again, I see this and think WOW! Whatever created this unbelievably vast universe must be so unbelievably powerful and intelligent that it would be so far beyond our comprehension to the point where they simply must be God. The insignificance of us and me points toward a creator. But I totally understand why the same evidence leads others to the opposite conclusion

Lewis Spears

Enjoying your journey into religion but the idea of a creator has always puzzled me when you consider that we’ve been able to observe 5% of the universe, which is still 750 sextillion times bigger than the radius of Earth? Hard not to feel inconsequential at that point. 750 sextillion for reference 750,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Angus Ferguson

There's also book by Aussie researcher Hugh Mackay called Beyond Belief. It explores the positives of religion and it's purpose in modern age. Also mindful of challenges you mentioned fraud, abuse etc

Ricky

Yo this looks so cool

Lewis Spears

God I’ve missed Angry Lewis it reminds me of your youth lot of anger an discussion of religion interesting hearing you go from agnostic to finding god is interesting

I think you'd like the book: On the Brink of Everything Grace, Gravity, and Getting Old By: Parker Palmer

Ricky

I have noticed this also

Lewis Spears

Enjoying the episode. I was raised by a Christian mum and Buddhist father. What drew me toewards Buddhism was how pushy my mum was. Now I'm agnostic, but see religion as a lens to look through life with the value being in how a person feels, like what you're sharing. It's usually when people find their own way that things are more wholesome. Those raised from birth tend to carry his horrible sense of judgement of everyone else and often secretly struggle under the weight of obedience to their 'god'. You have already established your own identity and seems like your path is an extension of your good values.
