Story Poll: A Special Pet for the MC?

I hope you aren't tired of polls this month, because for the first time I'm releasing a special one! Thinking about the ROs and animals made me consider one thing in particular... what if the MC had a little one that they kept around all the time? It could introduce some interesting interactions, to say the least, as well as helping flesh out the MC as their own character apart from how they interact with others. On the other hand, it does mean extra coding and scenes!
For what I have in mind, you would choose from several "pocket pets", so no cat or dog (but don't forget you have Whiskers and Bulwark!) Therefore, the options would be akin to:
Bird (finch or canary)
Ferret
Mouse
Rat
Squirrel
Grass snake
Feel free to comment your ideas! When I say pocket pet I truly mean they could fit in a large pocket or sit on your person, and it needs to be period or location appropriate.
So, does the MC need the choice to have a pet?

And now I must inquire about your hamsters. Names? Types? 😂 Unfortunately I did look them up and it didn't make as much sense for a hamster in this setting. I may even just stick to rat instead of also a mouse.

2024-08-27 20:57:16 +0000 UTCOne of my friend's at work used to have a hedgehog (I think it was a rescue that he rehabilitated but couldn't send it back because of its injury) and apparently it was very affectionate and his favorite pet to date.

2024-08-26 09:12:46 +0000 UTCI have hamsters irl so I'd be excited to be able to have a mouse/rat (unless you end up creating a hamster pet). That said, I'm also very intrigued by the idea of having a grass snake or bird pet. Something about my meek MC carrying around a snake and popping them in and out of her pocket a potentially inopportune times is hilarious to me.
