DirtyBit's Very Special Review - Custom Leather Collar from Raven And Lantern Leatherwork

This week is a Very Special review, at least for me.

The collar I am reviewing was a gift from Raven and Lantern Leatherwork and, spoilers, I adore it. 

I talk at fair length in the audio about what this means to me, but I did want to speak quickly on the review side of things for the people who prefer text. Insert dumb giggling here. 

Quick Note: I know some people and circles are very strict on how things like this can be received and used. There is a culture around these things? Luckily, I'm kind of an uncultured heathen and I do what I want. I can't really spare the energy to worry about how other people enjoy their symbolic notions, and I appreciate the same consideration when it comes to mine.

So, as I mentioned, this was a gift. When it was first offered, I immediately had a couple of options to customize it and make it my own. First was width and length. It was easy enough to measure my neck and an inch is a nice width.  Easy.

I was able to select the color that the leather would be dyed; I went with a slightly desaturated blue that kind of matched my original branding. Blue is one of my preferred colors, so it worked out haha. The color of the final product is really lovely and the dye collects in the stamping in a really beautiful way that reminds me of watercolor paint. Very happy with the color.

I was able to select the leather stamping; One of the options available was a scale pattern that reminds me of dragons.  I'm a nerd; Yes, I want a collar that looks like dragon skin. Amazing. The final product is.... better than I could imagine. It is a smaller scale texture, so I suppose it could look a little reptilian if a person wanted to be picky. OR, it came from very small dragons? I'm pretty sure it came from small  dragons.  

I was able to select the color of the hardware; Originally I was going to go with gold hardware, but after a comparison down the line, I change it to an antique brass as I prefer the worn in look. Really happy with that choice.

I requested some text to be stamped on the inside of the collar, which ultimately let to the collar being doubled up. The text was dyed red to stand out, which is just a lovely extra touch. I also really like the extra thickness.

The collar also came with a matching leash. I requested it be a loop on the shorter side. It's also lovely and doubles as an impact toy, which I'm sure was not the intention, but I'm a clever bitch with a creative streak so..... slap slap slap. 

The doubled up leather of the collar is a bit stiff, but, I mean, what do you expect? I'm looking forward to the break in process. Its flexible enough that I can wrap it around my wrist twice over and it feels comfortable, so... I just thought I would mention it. This feels like a nitpick.

One hole is punched at the perfect spot for the collar to fit perfectly. Snug enough that I feel my pulse, but not so tight it's uncomfortable. I have the option to make it a bit tighter, which I still need to experiment with, and  a few looser holes to choose from for a more casual experience.

Look, if you want leather things for fun times or just aesthetic, I had a really great time working with Raven and Lantern and I would recommend them. Like, if you have an idea, they will do their very best to make it happen, and that's pretty cool. I might already be considering ways to throw money at this shop, including a harness and another collar, at least. I love the ability to really customize it and make it all my own. 

Parts of this can't be reproduced and that makes it one of a kind. God that gets me wet. 

In conclusion, yeah, I really like it. Like, there wasn't much of a chance I wouldn't like it? And I like to be honest, you know? 

But, I really love how it turned out. To me, it symbolizes so many things, if not most significantly, the sense of empowerment I have found through this all, which seems awfully ironic when you consider, it's a collar. 

I fucking love irony. Ugh, it just all comes together.
