As most of you will already know, People Make Games is made up of three different people: Anni, Chris (hi, that’s me) and Quinns. We all slot together like a tiny Megazord in order to make this weird YouTube channel of ours happen and *hopefully* create some documentaries that you’re proud to support along the way.
Although Quinns and I are typically the ones hogging the spotlight in front of camera, Anni is the glue that holds this ship together. She’s the one who brings our animations to life; she helps plan and edit all our videos; she thinks about sound design and music; and she actually knows how to use horrible, complicated things like cameras, lights and worst of all… the Adobe Creative Suite.
She wears many more hats than just those and so perhaps it’s easier to say that if you’ve ever thought the work we do looks visually pleasing, it’s probably because she made that the case.
Another thing you may not know about Anni is that, erm, I’m madly in love with her. Like, properly head over heels stuff. Wow, this is a very strange post to write! I’m just going to keep typing otherwise I’ll think too much about it and this’ll never get written.
I should clarify, this isn’t some extremely misguided way of me asking her out on a date or something. God, can you imagine? No, I’m pretty sure she knows how I feel already as we’ve been in a relationship for nearly seven years now.
Some of you may have guessed as much already, but we’ve never really shared that part of our lives publicly because well, some things belong just to us.
However, it feels a little more necessary to do so right now because we have some news that will inevitably affect PMG in the coming months. The photo below has likely spoiled the surprise here. Anni and I, it turns out, are about to become parents.
We’re extremely excited to meet our son, Dylan, at the beginning of next year. His due date is meant to be on the 27th January, although as we’ve since learnt, only something like 4% of babies are born on their due date in the UK?! So really, it could be any point from mid-January to early February. We better get his room ready, gosh.
So what will this mean for People Make Games? Both Anni and I are going to be taking some time off from work following his birth to get to know this new, incredible person in our lives. We do have a few videos in the bank already, which will help fill this gap over the course of our break, and of course, Quinns will help hold the fort in the meantime as well.
Who knows? If we get this right, non-patrons may not even notice what’s happened. They’ll just ask things like “why does Chris look really tired?” and “I think somebody’s had a little sick on his jumper”.
But to be clear, Anni and I will be returning to our work on PMG! This job means so much to both of us and we have plans in place to allow for that to happen in a sustainable way, with help from each other, our family and some amazing childcare options nearby. We’ve always thought of PMG as something we’re in for the long haul and we're excited to continue this work as we become parents too.
Anyway, sorry for the unusual update here, but ultimately, you’re our employer. And you’re meant to tell your manager when these sorts of things happen, aren’t you? So erm, hi boss, we’re having a baby!

Standard practice is to go by date of last menstruation, when I'm sure I don't have to explain why, but 2 weeks after that is a far more likely date for conception. In the UK, standard practice is to assume last period +7, i.e. splitting the average difference between the two assuming a 28 day menstrual cycle. Often pregnant people have more accurate information than that, based on, y'know, knowledge they might have about recent circumstances and/or their own body, but for some reason the medical profession has decided it's better to ignore any potentially more specific information and just go with the based-on-the-averages guess.
