Your flight has been cancelled

Hello Patrons,

If you’ve been following the news in the UK over the last couple of days you’ll have seen that we needed to close the second-biggest airport in the country because somebody was flying a drone over its runway. As Gatwick officials are keen to point out on the telly, there could have actually been several different drones involved, thank you very much.

This may not sound like the kind of thing that can shut down an entire airport, but we Brits love embarrassing ourselves on an international scale and so we thought we’d give it a go anyway. I’m still not entirely sure if we’ve come up with a good solution to stop more drones turning up in the future, but apparently, the police have now said they are considering the "tactical option" of shooting them with guns.

Anyway, as a result, more than 100,000 people have now been affected by flight cancellations and unfortunately, that includes Anni and myself. We were meant to have just landed in the Netherlands where we were going to film the last (and most important) part of a story we’ve been putting together throughout this month.

This trip has now been delayed until the beginning of January, which means we won’t be publishing the episode until then either. We’re really sorry about that. It’s been an amazing year for People Make Games and it’s difficult not to feel frustrated by it ending on a bit of a bum note.

Thank you so much for your continued support. Aside from our plans getting mucked around here, it feels like we’ve really started to find our stride over the last two or three months. Getting into the games industry and How Neopets was sold to Scientologists are easily two of our favourite videos on the channel. We hoped you’ve liked them too.

To end this post on a more positive note I asked Anni if she could create a nice Christmas GIF as we wish you all a warm and festive holiday, as we take a few days off to recharge our batteries. Somehow she took that to mean: “could you draw and animate a Christmas tree that’s sort of waving it’s lower branches around like a Victorian lady would her dress, before sheepishly revealing a present hidden underneath.”
