Hello, is this thing turned on?

Wow. This has been a wild couple of days.

Exactly 48 hours ago we launched the Patreon for People Make Games and things have gone so much better than we’d even dared to hope. The first stretch goal has been hit, meaning I can work on this project full-time without worrying about needing to pursue other work to help pay the bills.

Thank you for your incredible support. Now it’s over to us to ensure we earn it!

So what am I up to?

As I’ve gone straight from working at Eurogamer to launching People Make Games, there’s quite a lot to get done before I can dedicate most of my time to working on our first story. Thankfully, the interviews for that piece were done weeks ago and so that shouldn’t set me back too much.

At the moment I’m sorting out new equipment, getting our office into shape, setting up our wonderful Discord (seriously, you should check it out) and figuring out the financial side of being self-employed for the first time. Lots of small, achievable tasks - which I’m finding pretty comforting at this stage.

There’s also promotion to think about. We’re still getting the word out about PMG and so, if you’re one of the hundreds of people that shared our Patreon page, announcement video, or YouTube channel - you’ve been a huge help. We really appreciate it.

I’m trying my best not to be too British about the whole thing and have slowly come to terms with asking people to financially support our work without having a nosebleed, but it’s tricky! I think there’s a fine line I want to walk here and ultimately it’s about letting our work speak for itself.

That being said, I’ve got a couple of interviews lined up for this week including a chat with BBC Radio 5 live in just a couple of hours. I should probably get ready for that. I’ll make sure to share the link once it’s up!

So yeah, this has been one of the most bizarre and overwhelming weeks of my life. Thank you so much for that.

It’s also a week that’s been topped off with an award for Best Video Presenter at the Games Media Brit List last night. Here’s me looking a bit emotional about the whole thing:

Congratulations to all the other winners and nominees. It was a lovely evening spent with some lovely folks.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Awesome that you got the award! And so glad you'll be able to comfortably do this full time. And never stop being so British.

Well done with the award. Looking forward to seeing a lot more of your work.
