Damien has not had what one might call and easy life.
A boy born to an uncaring elf mother, was left abandoned in the woods for his travelling merchant father to find. Since birth, the feeling of not belonging has always been a great cloud over his life. From the sympathetic coos from the well-kept women of the high cliffs to the rocks thrown by the urchins of the lower caverns, it seemed everyone living in Cragg's Den made a point to remind him he was an oddity.
Talk behind his back was constant, and never as subtle as that sort of talk was suppose to be. A half elf living in a mining town populated by tough men and tougher dwarves? Poor thing, he was never going to make it. How cruel of his father to take him away from the woods where he belonged, they would say. Louder still they would wonder what happened to his mother? No doubt the father did something to her, poor boy, poor boy.
How could he cope in such a world? Well, if it wasn't for some hard lessons, he might not have been able to.

Ok, this is a few pages I've done in my sketchbook a while back of lil Damien! I have an idea of the place he grew up, the situations and choices that make him who he is, and I wanted to draw one of the more pivotal moments.
His father knew his son would have an incredibly hard time in this world, but he believed coddling would do nothing but weaken him. Damien had to accept the cards he was dealt with and protect himself because he couldn't depend on anyone else to do it for him. It cut him to the core to hear this, probably because he knew it was true.
On a lighter note, I did sketch out a couple more pages where dad grudgingly pulls a bag of cookies out of a cubby and drops it on his lap. Dad is awful bad at comfort but he shows his love in his own way.
Got some stuff with grown up Damien on the way, and page 2 of Smutmas, yays!
Thanks for reading my lovelies, till next time. ✌
