ETS 2/ATS Lighting Preview 10

This is a lighting mod to improve lighting in ETS 2 and ATS. It is replacing default lighting system with modern lighting methods.

- When it will be released?

Test version will be released until 23/03/2025. I will release it even if there is something missing, I don't want to delay it anymore.

- Is it free or paid?

I'm planning to keep it free if donations are enough after release, if its not enough its going to be 1$/month subscription (you don't need to donate/subscribe before release).

- Sunlight?

This is using PBR lighting but game doesn't have PBR textures so it doesn't look good as perfect PBR lighting. The problem with sunlight is calculations make it worse when used without PBR textures. So sunlight looks worse with PBR lighting because of lack of PBR textures for objects in the game. For now I'm planning focus on overcast and rain. To add sunlight I need to somehow convert default textures to proper PBR textures. I can try to do that later but its hard to do because it depends on surface type.

- Night? To add night I need to replace lighting system for each type of light, I will do it later but currently its daytime only.

- Using with other asset mods/TruckersMP?

This is a .dll plugin like TAA, you can use with any mod you want including mods change assets.

- VR and multi monitor? Currently it doesn't work because I don't want to spend time on that but after everything is ready I will implement for VR and multi monitor.

- Performance?

This was the last test I did with max settings 2-3 weeks ago (I should do a new one): GPU: RTX 4050 (laptop) = RTX 3060 for desktop Game settings: Highest Quality with 100% resolution scaling at 1080p (low quality mirrors for better comparison) New lighting settings: Highest Quality Result: 130-140 fps Rendering a frame takes 7 ms on average (everything included, game base rendering + new lighting + TAA). New lighting with new AO + Reflections takes 2 ms (average) to render. Everything depends on the scene.

How did you get the mod? Is it released already?

I installed the mod but after the game loads for the second time, which is when it goes to the map, the game closes. I don't use HDR and I don't use Reshade. Without the mod files, the game runs normally.

As with all innovations around the world, you'll never be able to satisfy everyone, and many users have no idea what you're doing and no idea what it takes to try to improve something in this game. Just ignore the "requests" of the ignorant, but do what you know needs to be done and "correct" what you know needs to be corrected! Those who know how to appreciate will do so, although I fear they will be few. Most people only know how to require, demand, receive, and never thank. Greetings and best wishes my friend!

Have you experimented with adding Nvidia's DLSS 4 transformer model? (I think it's preset K in the latest .dll) If it works well it could probably offset some of the added GPU load from the more advanced lightning. The previews look amazing btw, incredible work!

They are not PBR textures, source of textures might be PBR textures but 100% they are baked and converted to match ingame lighting system, so they are not actually PBR as used in the game

Hi Snowy, about the PBR and sunlight stuff, I know its paid and not everyone will have it, but remember and keep in mind that PNG have PBR textures, at least for roads, don't know about the others.

Because I want to have a base quality level thats why its delayed a lot. If I can find a good way to handle sunlight with the current ingame textures I will add it. But for now result is not good enough for my quality level. I'm sorry.

What do you think? PNG v 1.15 or JBX will be compatible with your ligting? there is also a difference in the texture of roads and so on

I'm really disappointed. Why not just release the lighting change for sunny weather? Many people say it’s still better than the vanilla graphics. Why not let players decide for themselves instead of making the choice for them?

Beautiful, this really looks like an all-new graphics engine! Many thanks for sharing your roadmap. Night, Sunlight and VR will be greatly appreciated, but I totally get the massive work needed for these parts. Please take your time and don't give up, this is one of the greatest and most impressive "real game changer" mods I have ever seen, it's crazy good!! 🤩👍 One question: I see in the videos how you manually switch between various skydomes. Do you plan these to automatically blend from one to a random next (similar like the game does currently)? Or will we have to switch these manually?

Congratulations my friend. This will be a huge step forward to let the game Look more realistic without any Filters. Btw i also use different AO from Nvidia Freestyle since the game one is crap. Does your AO also work in Garage Scene? Since it looks like the z buffer is different in Garage.
