1:1 Scale Open World Driving Game - Future Plans

While working on mods/plugins I am also thinking about the game I am going to make.

Making my own game is going to give me freedom to make anything I want. But first I'm trying to plan every step before I start.

I already planned a lot of technical details to create a game with realistic graphics/physics, good optimization, easy to use map design pipeline etc.

Game is going to be driving game including different vehicles like truck, bus, car, motorcyle etc. Some of them (truck, bus) are going to have missions and others are going to be free to roam (probably maybe with some small missions).

Most important part of the game is going to be providing realistic experience. I want to make 1:1 scale map, because if you look at games likes ETS2/ATS 1:19 scale is pretty bad for realistic experience.

But also there are some negative sides of 1:1 scale. Environmental diversity is going to be pretty bad with 1:1 scale because its going to take long time to travel.

Average player is going to play a game like this probably max 2 hours a day. Most of the players want realistic experience but also it should feel better than real life.

So I was thinking about an idea.

I want to add different regions from all over the world. Most beautiful regions with different environments and nice roads.

Each of them are going to be separated map including multiple roads worth 20 minutes drive.

There will be multiple entrance/exit tunnels for each map. When you drive through entrance/exit tunnels its going to change map with new one.

Its like teleporting but these tunnels are going to provide seamless driving experience (no loading screen).

Also there will be seasons with dynamic weather. Everytime you move to new region you are going to have different experience because season & time of day is going to change randomly.

Imagine you are driving at coast of Norway, then you enter the tunnel and now you are driving at desert of USA, forest of China, valley of Switzerland, Balkans, Europe, Africa, South America, Canada, Australia, Asia and different regions from all over the world.

Also this provides unlimited ways to create driving route with different lengths and environmental diversity. Its possible to connect every region with different entrance and exit tunnels.

Sure, this is not a realistic way to make a game like this. But to improve the gameplay and have more fun, I can't find another way. If you have an idea, I'm ready to listen < 3

Edit:

I'm planning to use Unreal Engine 5 + custom engine.

Unreal Engine is pretty good to make a game in short time but I don't like the performance. I'm going to disable rendering graphics from Unreal Engine 5. Unreal Engine is going to handle inputs (keyboard, controller, steering wheel etc), physics, audio etc and my custom engine is going to handle loading/unloading maps and rendering graphics.

So I am going to waste less time while keeping the graphics better with well optimizated rendering engine.

Image 1: Average region design. Multiple entrance/exit tunnels to provide multiple driving experience. Non-drivable region to provide higher view distance.

Image 2: Example of unlimited ways to create driving route.

Thank you < 3 First I'm planning to add easier roads to chill & drive but later I'm planning to add more challenging roads < 3

There's a very challenging place here in Mexico it called "Cumbres de Alcutzingo" (Alcutzingo's Summit) it's a 15 minutes hardcore challenge, insane for trailers and buses, because of the steepness and it's very narrow turns, in many sectors, vehicles must switch lanes in order to allow trailers to turn, besides that, this road is almost always filled with heavy fog. Please look for google videos about this place I'm sure it's gonna give you a very interesting idea for a region, yeah it has tunnels, bridges, railroads filled of more tunnels. You'll like it. An Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ver1BXbzpiA Quality is awful but has the full experience for trailers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jjw6ouIiIs Yes, the heavy fog will help rendering ;) too
