Hey again! I hope that everyone is having a chill Saturday evening. I'm here because I need to let you know about the new Sales tax that Patreon will be implementing into Pledges.
So Patreon reached out to me to let me know about how with laws being passed in several states, that they are now required by law to start applying sales tax to your pledges.
I know that some of you might've already heard about this from other creators you're currently supporting but I just wanted to let everyone know whats happening instead of it just catching everyone by surprise!
This is supposed to go into effect on July 1st so it's not happening right away. I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out and seeing how I can keep this tax from hitting too hard however Patreon says that it'll just be a small amount:
"Less than half of all patrons will be charged sales tax, and for most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents."
Depending on the place you reside in, you'll be charged accordingly (or not at all). If you have questions, you can read their tax support page here.
