Caught this at the very end but watched the replay! You always have a fun time with a great group of people in the chat. I was delighted to hear that you watched "Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)" and literally can't wait for it. And while the '78 is my favorite of the four versions, I would have suggested you start with the original 1956 classic. I love all 4 films because they each have something a little different to say. Certainly, what drives the '78 film is the paranoia and conspiracy-driven vibe in the aftermath of 1960-70s counter-cultcure. The '56 is often seen as an allegory to the identity suppresion felt during the McCarthy era. In 1994 it was added to the National Film Registry of Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." 1993's "Body Snatchers" is the most different as its actually a coming-of-age story where the protagonist is a teenage girl while the invasion happens around her. And lastly, 2007's "Invasion" keeps the female protagonist in this gender-bending remake where Nicole Kidman plays psychiatrist Dr. Carol Bennell, a single-mom and Daniel Craig plays her colleague who together must face the invasion in the digital information age. /ramble

2023-10-14 23:39:08 +0000 UTCAs much as I love the Universal Classics, Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) is alright to watch first, but Bela Lugosi's Dracula (1931) is one that you should watch; it's only 75 minutes long. The (1931) Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. is a must-see, and the movie star, Fredric March, was the first actor ever to win an Academy for Horror.
