My almost 7yo really wants to play, too, so I'm always rooting for that video option, but I also recognize that we're probably not the majority in the overall subscriber base, so it may be a "special video" or just never. That being said, my wife's friend just started running because her kids (8 & 10) wanted to play with her husband and a friend, so I was showing her how to run (because she was totally new), and I think the best takeaway we both had was simply everything that could be simplified and focus on: describe, give options, let them make choices, roll dice. Their first session went really well, and I hope it's still going. (As an example, if an 8yo were playing for the first time I might say, "Okay, so you approach an animal near a bush who looks really angry, like it might attack you, but it's staying in place for now. Would like to try to talk to the animal, attack the animal first, or see if you can find out more information about why it's angry?" And then based on what they chose say, "Okay, you are going to roll an Animal Handling check so roll the d20 and we're going to add a 4 to that," or "Okay, so you're going to use __insert spell, attack, or ability and explain what to do__, so roll this," or, "Okay, let's use your perception skill to see what we notice. Roll the d20 and add 4 to that.") At least that would be my best guess at doing so if I did it again with my 7yo.
