Vote on Content for Lair Magazine
Added 2022-04-12 11:10:57 +0000 UTCWe reached out to some of our writers to see what ideas they had for content we might put in Lair Magazine. And now we're asking you, our patrons, which of the ideas put forth you'd like to see in an upcoming issue! So, vote on the one you like the most.
Note: Due to the amount of lead time built into the magazine, the content chosen won't be featured until a fall issue. Yeah, sorry, but it takes a lot of time and there are many steps involved in putting together each issue.
Descriptions
As follows are descriptions of each voting choice.
Add Flavor to Your Weapons. Expand your basic weapons! The goal would be a set of random tables that allow for some flavorful expansion of your longsword, mace, maul, etc. A few examples of tables would be specific designs of hilts, a set of adornments based on rarity/lifestyle, and expansions for the weapon as a character levels up.
Create and Customize a Town. A set of tables meant to help GMs easily build a small town or city should the players actively look for unexpected civilization. This would include options for a tavern, shops, governing body, and an interesting event in the town’s history. Additions for cities could include museums, outdoor areas, or historical landmarks. This could even include a theme table to help decide whether the town is a rough-and-tumble thieves’ town in the countryside, a Western-style town with a street for duels, or a high magi-tech city with floating platforms and flying individuals.
Prophetic Dreams & Nightmares. A small collection of dreams or nightmares with varying purposes. Dreams could provide direction to a previously unknown location or nightmares could foreshadow the arrival of a powerful entity. While these would primarily be descriptions of things seen, interactive components could be included as well. Additionally, this could include links to quests later written in the same article or could have items, rewards, or people connected to them as McGuffins, inspiration, or quest-givers respectively.
Unique and Themed Trinket Lists. While there are a lot of trinket ideas in official books, these can be more challenging to incorporate or find if DMs are trying to find a specific theme to include. This would include a d20 table for various categories – such as by background (i.e. Knight, Noble, Courtier, Urchin, etc.) or creature type (i.e. Fey, Fiend, Undead) – that could be used as a basis for this without being overwhelming. Plus, it could also be used for NPCs to give more flavor to their descriptions and personality.
Class/Subclass Options. Options for various class/subclass features, such as new battle master maneuvers, warlock eldritch invocations, or sorcerer metamagics.
Comments
I love all of the ideas. I hope they eventually end up in the magazine at sometime.
