This one hit me right in the feels. Rebirth and fruity loops 3 are what kick started my obsession with making electronic music and electronics. I was in 4th grade and just heard aphex twin on uni radio and had to replicate it. My dad found me trying to wire a switch into an old cassette deck to over dub my own tracks. All I had was a cheap electric guitar since I was only serious studying guitar for 3 years at that point and just got a boss gt 6 on clearance after saving all my money from my first job ( was raised in a farming community, so yes I made like $3 an hour doing farm chores for neighbors as a little kid) trying to make synth sounds and techno. I found a few broken laptops from trash piles and combined them into 1 working machine. My dad was talking to his coworker whos son turned out to be a popular club rapper and dj in the nearest city an hour away. He was tickled by this little kid trying to make techno and made me a cdr with fruity loops 3, rebirth, and drum samples cracked and ready to go. tb 303, tr 808 and 909 from rebirth and wasp from fruity are some of my favorite sounds from the memories I made. 20 or so years later I have a bunch of physical gear, stopped circuit bending toys and make my own circuits and have been blessed by Oli with a 303 and wasp clone.
