It's definitely weird that the voice coil actuator is powered on all the time except when the cam on the motor disengages it. I mean it works but the coils must heat up (and use power!) if they hum. I think it's an excellent idea to replace the motor + cam assembly with a relay, and a capacitor to cap the max speed as you said. For the pegs, maybe you can dremel some brass screws/nails? I'm not really sure how they are fastened. Anyways excellent project as always!

hahaha well yes i mean that could be something that could wire into the trigger input, i guess im thinking if i wire it in on a wall with an enclosure below it on the end of some conduit with a trigger input and a trigger output jack (they could also have a light and an arcade button wired into them) then it can be multi purpose, be it wired to a module or anything then

You could replace the motor with an arcade button so a viewer could press it and manually clock it. For some reason I am thinking they would win 10p if they got it around to one of the pegs, but that's definitely a bad idea.
