Anything that switches hard tends to inject noise into the power supply and ground lines. The 555 essentially shorts the capacitor to ground at every cycle, so the bigger the capacitor the more energy shunted to ground, maybe using a smaller capacitor or adding a small resistor in series with the cap to slow down its discharge could help reduce the noise. All digital ICs also inject noise into the supply lines, especially when multiple bits change at the same time like when counting from 63 to 64 or when looping back from 127 to 0. That's why it's important to put those 0.1µF decoupling capacitors at every digital chip. They should be as close to the chip's power pins as possible to maximize their efficiency.

2020-01-21 12:38:32 +0000 UTCThe 555 could definitely be the source, but the binary counter I have definitely modulated the signal a bit to a point where something almost musical is shot down my ground and comes out really nice on my vca lol. Except it's always there
2020-01-21 12:37:29 +0000 UTCis that the 555 adding noise? I have heard that before. in the actual module I wont be using a 555. its just a a clock for now. but ill; look into it. I think its a case of adding a current limiting resistor to the power rail of the 555, I may be wrong the first thing that comes to mind is to take a look at the 555 vco circuit that's on thonk, I cant remember the maker, but they have obviously had to sort out the 555 noise issue
