Quick answers 1.) Deeper than you'd think 2.) Samus is a super soldier fueled by the trauma of losing her parents to space pirates and their space dragon leader. 3.) If you wanna learn before you write about her, I recommend the gamerthumbtv playlist on the metroid timeline. While not perfect, it follows what is commonly seen as the canon timeline.
