Kam's Christmas Haul
Added 2025-01-21 16:00:11 +0000 UTCWhen filling out my Christmas list, I asked Santa for "Weird/Bad Board Games". The results were...mixed.

Your comments about the Worst Case Scenario in this video got me thinking about board games based on books. Then I realized I actually have a few of them in my collection 221B Baker Street is a Sherlock Holmes game that's really just a slightly better version of Clue where you are given a mystery, and need to go around the board finding clues to solve it. It's been a long time since I played this one, but I recall one of my issues with it being that several of the cases are taken from the Sherlock Holmes books, which means that anyone who has read them basically has it solved from the get go. There's also a game based on the educational book The Way Things Work. I picked this up at a garage sale years ago because it seemed so wacky, but never had any reason to play it. An argument could also be made that any Lovecraft themed boardgames are based on a book. But seeing as that's essentially its own genre now, it would seem silly to link them with other book based games

2025-03-03 20:27:28 +0000 UTCI actually recently watched a video by Old Crappy Couch comparing the two. His conclusion was that the new version is (somehow) the better version. I would miss the construct-as-you-go aspect of it though. Here's the video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/AT9JdwbsGkg?si=ZDTvaN6w3EZShnX1

2025-03-03 19:52:20 +0000 UTCI remember playing regular Mouse Trap a long time ago, which is why I was so confused when Easier Set-Up made us build the trap right at the start. Now I really want to play the original again to see how big the difference is.

2025-03-03 19:36:12 +0000 UTCMy mom had a copy of Booby Trap, so I played it a lot as a kid. I have really fond memories of that one. Also, it may be a trash game, but I do really like Mouse Trap as well, although that could just be because I think Rube Goldburg machines are really cool. I always figured the contraption isn't supposed to work every time you use it, which adds to the suspense.

2025-03-03 19:26:41 +0000 UTCYou mentioned Bohnanza before as a game you liked that you wished was more popular. Here's hoping one day it shows up in a video, because I love seeing people talk about things they like.

2025-01-21 17:24:07 +0000 UTCI own Donner Dinner Party and I actually played it with a group of people. Its like Mafia or Werewolf with two teams. What really makes this game is the Cannibal team will purposely destroy food so they "have to" eat people.
