Earfun UBOOM L - video coming tonight
Added 2022-04-23 10:18:18 +0000 UTCAfter I got the firmware with my recent DSP tweaks yesterday I immediately shot a first video with the UBOOM L putting it against some other speakers side by side like the MaxSound+, Flip 6, Soundore Motion+ and Denon Envaya, I didn't manage to include the Soundlink Flex anymore as my camera got out of charge. But to give you some further idea what to expect I wanted to share another frequency response measurement of the UBOOM L against the Flip 6 (green) and Soundlink Flex (blue).
This was measured with the indoor mode, and you can see that the UBOOM L has the flattest response. All have some comparable treble boost at around 10k, but I opted for a constant boost towards the roll off, while JBL and Bose have some boost below as well, which definitely tends masks details above. The UBOOM L has much more response above 14khz (the roll off starts above 18k, while the others roll off already earlier), therefore sounds way more airy and detailed without the harshness that the other speakers produce with their lower treble boosts. The trick is to extend the response as far as possible and boost towards the roll-off point on both ends without adding any peaks or resonances below, the same I tried with the reference tuning of the Free Pro 2 and I was actually shocked how similar they sound, when I listened to both side by side, which somehow confrimed my initial goal: speakers and headphones should sound the same or at least resemble each other to some degree. If you like my Free Pro 2 reference tuning, you should also love the sound of the UBOOM L.
