GotSIS Lore Compendium: The Sorcerer Supreme

We all know that the Sorcerer Supreme is the leader of the Sorcerers of Earth and Earth’s prime protector against the forces of evil that threaten Earth and its dimensions.

But being the Sorcerer Supreme is more than a mere title. More than a position to uphold and more than a humongous responsibility on someone’s shoulders.

The Sorcerer Supreme is a mantle bestowed upon the most powerful and most eligible practitioner of the Mystic Arts, one who would defend Earth and its dimensions against all magical and interdimensional threats that would wish it harm. One who would make the choice needed when the time came. One who would put the Greater Good and protection of Earth above all others.

The wielders of the mantle have been feared and respected across the cosmos. Even Skyfathers and Earthmothers listen when a Sorcerer Supreme speaks, and lesser gods tremble at the prospect of facing their wrath.

Yet the question arises: Why? Why would gods and even the gods of gods fear a mere mortal, albeit one with magic?

The answer is simple. The mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, vested in the Eye of Agamotto, which also houses the Time Stone bestows the Sorcerer Supreme with powers worthy of his/her office. Powers and spells that no other mortal can wield or perform, despite any amount of knowledge they have. And that, is merely the beginning.

Here are the powers a Sorcerer Supreme is bestowed, once the Eye deems them worthy:

Knowledge of Mystic Arts: Agamotto’s Eye of Knowledge, as the name suggests, bestows knowledge onto its wearer. The knowledge of all of those who wore it before— AKA the Sorcerer Supreme(s) Emeritus. Thus, the Eye contains knowledge that every Sorcerer Supreme before the current bearer had gained and applied in their years of protecting Earth.
Advanced Techniques: As a fallback, Agamotto intended the Eye to bestow not only knowledge but also the muscle memory and the complete know-how of Sorcery to the wearer (Because raw knowledge without experience or the ability to use it, is nothing but words on a page in magic). This was largely intended in the case where all the Sorcerers were wiped out and the Earth was left without a protector. In such a case, the Eye would’ve chosen the one most eligible and bestowed all the knowledge and know-hows on them, thus creating a new Sorcerer Supreme from scratch.
Armory of the Sorcerer Supreme: A select few relics were sometimes deemed ‘too dangerous’ to be used by anyone other than the Sorcerer Supreme. This is a cache of relics that only the Sorcerer/Sorceress Supreme can summon and use when needed to protect Earth. A few examples of such relics are:
- Excalibur: Added to the Armory by Merlin, the Excalibur is a sword without peer, one which can kill gods and even make the wielder briefly invincible. The Sword can also heal others.
- The Tactigon: An Omega-level threat in itself, the Tactigon is an alien artefact that can find any enemy's weakness and adapt itself to exploit it. It’s capable of emitting highly destructive energy blasts and can change its shape to conventional or esoteric weapons(including a black hole) to fit whatever the situation requires.
- Hercules' Golden Mace: Once the weapon of the Mighty Hercules, the golden mace is capable of levelling blows powerful enough to rival Mjolnir.
- Gáe Bulg: Also called the spear of death, it is said to be capable of killing gods.
- Spear of Destiny: The spear the pierced Jesus’ side and was bathed in his blood, giving it magical properties.
- Rings of Solomon: A set of powerful rings which could entrap magical beings, including demons and give their powers to the wielder.
- Eye of Agamotto: The most obvious and most important relic of the Armory of the Sorcerer Supreme is the Eye of Agamotto which also houses the Time Stone.
Time Stone: One of the six infinity stones, the Time Stone is housed within the Eye of Agamotto and used by the Sorcerer Supreme to protect reality. Having the stone allows them to see through infinite possibilities of the future and guide Earth on the right one. In addition, if things go far too south, they can be reversed if absolutely necessary by the Sorcerer Supreme.
Soulfire: Also known as Angel fire or the Eternal flame, the use of Soul Fire is bestowed to the Sorcerer Supreme. It is a fire with unparallel destructive and healing capabilities, one which, apart from the Sorcerer Supreme, only Skyfathers can use.
Spells of Agamotto: Agamotto, as some might be aware, was not a mere mortal but the son of the Elder God, Oshtur. He is also a member of the Vishanti and the father of Mystic Arts— the first Sorcerer Supreme. Naturally, a few spells of his, can only be accessed by the Sorcerer Supreme.
Power of Earth: The one thing that sets the Sorcerer Supreme apart in power from all others is the connection to Earth and its vast magic that the mantle bestows. Essentially, Earth is a reserve of magic unparalleled by any and the Sorcerer Supreme has a direct connection to it— one he/she can draw from if needed to protect Earth.
