LoSP Lore Compendium: Thyella Kavalaris
Added 2025-04-06 18:05:46 +0000 UTCθύελλα καβαλάρης. Thyella Kavalaris. The Storm Rider.
Widely known as the fabled weapon of Percy Jackson, it is a weapon that can take the form of a trident and a sword. Thyella kavalaris is one of a kind weapon. While not forged exclusively for Percy, under the guidance of Alexander, he built the weapon to be his.
In its own right, at full strength, it is comparable in power to the weapon of any younger Olympians, even exceeding a few of them in raw might.
At this point, Thyella Kavalaris is an extension of Percy himself when in use.
But what makes it unique is its forging, or more appropriately, how each of the weapons— the forms it takes were forged, and later, merged.
The first, and prime form, is a sword. A simple, elegant, beautifully crafted sword. In its form, it is near a hand and a half sword, with a slightly broader blade. It is versatile enough to be used one-handed and two-handed, whichever suits the wielder.
The sword was originally forged for Alexander, meant to be his divine weapon. Forged in the fires of Mount Etna, cooled in the springs of Pontus, and tempered in the river of Phlegethon, the sword is made of three metals: Celestial Bronze, Imperial Gold, and Umbra platinum. Due to the latter, the sword has the unique ability to absorb the essence of the gods it slays.
The second form is the trident. Gifted and blessed by Poseidon, the trident was meant to grow with Percy, both in power and in size. The trident was forged in the forges of Atlantis, created with Adamantine and Olympian silver, both of which are unique metals.
Due to its special make, and blessing, the trident was meant to help Percy with the powers of the sea. The trident was a weapon of the ocean, and it would’ve gone extremely well with Percy. In fact, it would’ve been in the league of something like the riptide by itself, just more… convenient in a few ways to Percy.
When Alexander merged the two forms, each gained the properties of the other, becoming one weapon with two forms. The trident gifted Percy a greater connection to the weapon, while the sword amped the power it could handle, giving it a nigh-divine edge. It is also the reason Percy gets a boost whenever he kills a god.
In addition to that, Alexander had Percy flood the weapon with his powers every night since Percy was ten. This meant the blade drank in a lot of Percy’s power and grew in accordance, thanks to the influence of the trident. It grew in power, strength, and returned it to Percy whenever he needed it.
At full strength (which it is not at right now due to the binds), the Storm-Rider has the ability to amplify Percy’s power three to five times. They also allow him to hold powers for longer, channel them easily and even add versatility to the use.
Due to its unique properties, make, and divine forging, the Storm Rider can also cut through anything (including gods) and is equipped to kill any monster it encounters.
Currently, it is under binds for Percy's own safety, and more than him, the world's. One of the reasons for this is that Percy's power is not insubstantial, and if the sword's operating at full power, he could accidentally level a small block without even meaning to.
Another is that the storm rider continuously feeds and helps Percy. With more power, they'd risk him burning up, if he doesn't have a place to continuously put the power at (like, a battle).

I hope that cleared some doubts about the sword. I've received a lot of questions about it, which is why I made this.
The next update will be LoSP, which'll go up in a couple of days. I will share an excerpt tomorrow if I can.
