LoSP Lore Compendium: Percy’s Power
Added 2024-10-27 18:42:39 +0000 UTCPercy Jackson is the most powerful demigod to have walked on Earth, where the LoSP universe is concerned. He’s the greatest swordsman and one of the best trident users too. Not to mention, crazy efficient where it comes to fighting impossible battles. But what makes him so capable?
The answer is not a single factor but a combination of multiple things combining as one, as these things often are. And it is not so simple either. Because Percy isn’t just more capable than Demigods, but even gods. He has, in the past, went toe to toe with Olympians and Titans, killing a handful without breaking a sweat. A feat no other demigod in history had achieved, until him. And he was followed by Thalia, and later, Clarisse, who, together, are the greatest heroes in history, with a few more.
But what is it that sets Percy apart, both in skills and power? What enables him to go toe-to-toe with gods who have lived for a thousand times more than he has? Gods, who, in all respects, should be way more powerful than him.
And here, are the reasons:
Alexander: One of the main reasons Percy is all he is, is because of the god in his head. It was the point where the story diverged, in the very first chapter, forming the tale we know today. Alexander, the god of time, storms, night, and swordsmanship was the son of Kronos and Nyx. In all aspects, he was powerful enough to rival any of the Big Three and more. He was also the patron of heroes and understands them better than most.
Being in Percy’s head, he has been a constant influence on Percy’s life, being with him 24/7. He, in many ways, reflects Alexander, as is noted multiple times by a few gods throughout the story. Percy is very much like Alexander was in behavior and speaking.
In addition, he also gave him the powers over time and shadows and increased his control over storms. It also gave him a higher affinity for weapons and made it easier for him to learn any weapon, thanks to the domain of war. It is one of the reasons Percy can wield multiple weapons with a passable proficiency, even if his true strength lies in swords and tridents.
Alexander’s presence also changed his body in a few ways. He can learn things faster, remember more, heal quicker, and even operate on multiple levels at the same time. His presence also allows him greater durability, higher stamina, and ability to resist influences like mist manipulation or any attacks on a mental level.Heritage: Percy is the son of Poseidon, the first one in centuries. This itself gives him a power and potential greater than any other demigod. His pool of power was already great to begin with and other factors only served to grow it. Also, being a son of the sea, he takes upon some of its aspects, alongside the obvious powers. Sons of the sea are always powerful and dangerous, much like the sea itself.
Also, being a demigod meant that he could learn and adapt a lot faster than gods do. Demigods are always in danger, and hence are crafted in a way that would enable them to survive. And an aspect of survival is growth.Hestia’s Blessing: Hestia is without debate the best and kindest goddess amongst all Greek gods. She’s the eldest child of Kronos, and also, in some respects, the one who lays foundation for Olympus. Now, her blessing didn’t just give Percy new powers. It changed him in other ways. His fatal flaw, for instance, was loyalty. In Athena’s words, he was loyal to the point that he’d burn the world to save someone he loved.
Hestia’s blessing enhanced the bond he had with those he considered friends and family. It didn’t just become a fatal flaw, it became his entire drive to fight and defend Olympus, in order to protect his family. It made him much, much more protective.
Her blessing also tempered him to be a lot kinder, humble, and prevented him from turning into someone like Kymopoleia, who was controlled by the storms. The sea has both sides in extremes. It can be giving, and it can rip away cities. It can be joyous or a fear. And with what Percy would face, it would’ve turned him into the latter. Instead of a friendly figure, he’d been a cold, ruthless general. The blessing prevented it.Practice: Percy has practiced relentlessly, thanks to his want of protecting his family. He has spent years, continuously practicing all he can, gaining every bit of expertise and knowledge to accomplish his goal. Continuous practice increased his stamina, and his speed, allowing him to fight fast enough to combat most threats in the Greek world.
Thyella Kavalris: The Storm Rider plays a crucial role in augmenting Percy’s power and allowing him to do things that no other demigod has. It is a weapon for him, made by him. Or well, tempered by him, by feeding it power. Its initial craftsmanship was a weapon suitable for a god who could rival the Big Three. But it hadn’t been made into one yet. The bond wasn’t forged. But Percy forged it himself, till he and the sword were one.
Limitation of his Enemies: The enemies of higher level— gods and titans are often limited in the power they can use when fighting heroes. For instance, most titans that Percy has fought, especially Coeus, Oceanus, Tethys, Phoebe, or Atlas, would’ve crushed him like a tin can, had they not been restricted to mortal limits. The strength of gods, when fighting fellow gods without restriction or harming mortals, is phenomenal. It can sink continents with laughable ease (Which is one of the reasons Olympians are not engaging titans directly right now.) Poseidon and Oceanus’ army went to war in the middle of the sea and the effects were severe to the point that Percy was knocked out due to the backlash, despite Amphitrite and Alexander shielding him.
Thus, gods and titans are massively restricted in their actions. They are not allowed to use their true godly power in the presence of mortals and must fight demigods only in mortal limits (which still exceed them by a good margin in most cases).
But Percy has this advantage and turns the Ancient Laws around, using it against his enemies, in spectacular ways.Fate itself: Fate has decreed Percy as the child of the Prophecy. And despite fate usually being neutral, it is always in the favor of the greater survival of humanity, which wouldn’t be the case if titans (and later, giants) win. Percy is their tool to ensure that it doesn’t happen, and that humanity survives. Of course, it doesn’t mean that it’s fixed that he'll win.
Them helping Percy is stacking the favors in their odds as much as they can, to ensure the world survives. Thalia became the backup plan when Kronos continued to gain power. In The balance of the scales, it is the reason Nemesis stops Percy to the point of outright curb stomping him. And the reason she was allowed to do so was because she was carrying out the biddings of fate.
.
These are the reasons why Percy blows all there is out of the water. It is why he has enough power and skills to rival gods and stare down the Olympian council if he so wishes. He’s respected, and heard of, thanks to the power and skill he has. Even Heracles didn’t have that much pull.

I hope I clarified any doubts that have arisen in your minds regarding Percy’s power and the reasons for it (within the story’s limit). If you have any questions for LoSP, feel free to ask me in the comments or on discord. I had originally not planned to write the Lore Compendiums for LoSP, but since I was recently asked this question (or one close enough), I decided to do it.
As for updates, LoSP’s next chapter will go live in a day or two. So, stay tuned.
