GotSIS Lore Compendium: Magic V/S Sorcery

In a world where two different kinds of magic meet, it is necessary to understand the difference between the two magics. The magic in Harry's world and the MCU are different. Varied, even if some purposes overlap.

I am terribly sorry for being MIA for the past few days. Unfortunately, my health hasn't been supporting me this week and I am down with a slight fever and a bad cold. Nothing too serious but enough to block my brain and trouble me.

The next update, or shall I say updates are all nearly ready. I'm writing multiple stories at once and they will all soon be completed, if my muse and health favor me this week.

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions about the differences or theory of magic or sorcery. Of course, I will answer as per the GotSIS world, but it could be interesting for both you and me. Many times, your questions allow me to clear my own head about a certain topic. So, I encourage questions.

GotSIS Lore Compendium: Magic V/S Sorcery

Asgardian Magic, probably, yes. That'll be after Loki is introduced. As for witchcraft, well, there's a significant crossover with both the worlds in there. While Chaos magic on the other hand cannot be defined much. It exists to defy logic. To defy understanding and laws. It doesn't have rules because rules are Order, not Chaos. I could do a list though, of the types of magic and their classification on a later stage, kind of like the one Marvel Wiki has. In it, I could include a lot of other stuff too, but it will be once we are introduced to a wider world, namely, post the Avengers and all. We're still in the start of the story, my friend. A lot is yet to come.

Are you going to add sections for the other magics? Asgardian magic? Witchcraft? Chaos magic?

Okay, by limited I mean it can only act in a certain radius at best. It is ranged. Yes, a powerful spell can easily go a hundred meters or so. But not further. Even something like Fiendfyre could be contained or will die out, even though it will be after causing substantial destruction. The word limited here also means that magic lacks the wide area spells that Sorcery has. Combat spells like hexes and curses are often a beam of magic. Magic is much more versatile but it can only impact one thing at a time in most cases. It is a knife that can be used to cook by cutting and peeling, it can be used in household chores, it can be thrown as a deadly projectile, it can be used to stab and slice in close quarter combat, etc. Heck, someone crazy and skilled enough could even use it to do surgery like Tracheotomy. Sorcery, on the other hand, is like a big ass flamethrower or a rocket launcher. Big boom but limited use :D

Hmm. Good pointers all of them. Very logical and thought out. Fits the canon of both HP verse and Marvel (as much as I know beyond MCU). One question, is the HP portion strictly canon? I mean to say when we speak of range, should it not be dependent on magical being's power and raw magical energy available via the core and most importantly their skills; rather than simply being 'limited'. As some examples, Harry did summon the firebolt from his dormitory all the way to the forbidden forest. Apparition is a magic that takes people to distant points depending on their skill and visualization capabilities. Both those magics are not limited in range and both cannot be performed with as much finesse as Harry or dumbledore (best example for all such cases). I would also be correct to assume that not justvanyone can summon fiendfyre. Then it would mean that magic is not limited in range for it's effect. It's only the performer who might have limits be it knowledge, skillset, expertise and raw power. What do you think? Great summarization by the way and makes it clear what you are planning to work upon. Would serve as great guides for you while writing and for us when reading. Keep up the good work and stay healthy!
