Bonus Tale 03 - Digging In - Concept / Set Work!
Added 2021-11-15 13:23:30 +0000 UTCAlright! This was actually a ton of work. I remember when i only had a simple script for All Tied Up, but i guess i spent a good chunk of time making a set model for it. Preproduction is always surprisingly tough!
So, the story is ready to be expanded from the "Events Per Page" Treatment, to the Full Script that I draw from. The script usually takes a day or two, and then thumbnailing can begin.

For comics specifically there's Scott Mccloud's "Understanding Comics" and "Making Comics" which are important books on the artform. but outside of just like, general formatting, i can't really point you towards a guide to screenwriting. If you want to get really in the weeds on comics, Will Eisner's "Comics and Sequential Art" is more informative than the scott mccloud book, but a much drier read. And there's the recent book by Blambot's Nate Piekos's "Essential Guide to Comic Book Lettering ". I picked it up on preorder and just got it recently, but i haven't had time to actually pour through it. Still all the prereaders gave it good reviews, and i'm a stickler for good lettering, so i'd recommend it, too!

I’m entirely self taught, but I’ve picked up a lot through seeing behind-the-scenes stuff from animations and movies, reading about other media’s preproduction, game dev and stuff. most creative fields have the same work – in– passes approach so there’s a lot you can learn around! comics share a lot with screen writing, and there’s lots of information about the process behind that out there. I love seeing other peoples preproduction stuff too!
