Full Guide To The Body's 7 Energy Centres
Added 2022-06-13 12:53:04 +0000 UTCToday's article will be focused on inner knowledge. A metaphysical understanding of the body in how it is related to our mind and the reality we experience.
It is common for students of metaphysics to completely turn away from the physical and deny it. But, to do so is only ignorance. As long as we are human, we experience the physical plane, therefore it would be wise to gain a proper understanding of the laws and nature of it.
We will be primarily focusing on the body's energy centres (also known as chakras) with an esoteric and scientific approach to gain a sound understanding of what they actually are and what they do.
Chakras are commonly mentioned in New Age Spirituality, but how they are perceived is usually extremely mistaken. This is deliberate though, to keep the masses blind. Fortunately though, after this article you should have an accurate understanding of the body's energy centres, what they are, what they do, how they work and how to correctly utilise them.
Brain & Body
The brain is not the storehouse of your whole consciousness, it is intrinsically linked but your whole body is also closely linked as well. Neurones and neural networks fire away primarily in the brain, however they are also present throughout the whole of the body, not just the brain.
Yes, you have neural networks throughout your whole body. Your brain isn't the only place in which electrical information corresponding with thoughts/emotions/behaviour is enclosed.
For example, your gut is the primary home of serotonin receptors in your body. Serotonin can be described as:
"A monoamine neurotransmitter. Its biological function is complex and multifaceted, modulating mood, cognition, reward, learning, memory, and numerous physiological processes."
In simple terms, it is a hormone that is closely linked with your thinking and mood. Its main home is in your gut, not your brain. Like I said, your brain is not the storehouse of your whole consciousness. Your entire body is included, and the purpose of this article is to show you exactly how and why this is. You will also learn how to use the energy centres in your body and why this is important.
An Overview of the Energy Centres
The body is actually taught in ancient esoteric knowledge to have much more than 7 energy centres (chakras), however it is important to understand the main 7 first as they are the most influential and foundational.
Chakras is an East Indian Vedic word which essentially means 'wheel', it is the word originally used to name these energy centres. So, whenever you hear the word 'chakra', think energy centre.
Each energy centre has its own specific energy that carries a corresponding level of consciousness. They also have their own glands, unique hormones and individual plexuses of neurones. They are like mini-brains scattered throughout the body. They have their own roles to carry out at each point of the body.
They truly are centres of energy as they are the centres which govern the behaviour of their given areas. When an energy centre is affected, it affects its area, and vice versa. However, they also correspond with your consciousness like previously stated. Therefore, whenever their corresponding levels of consciousness are affected, so are they.
The 7 energy centres are:
- Pituitary gland (Crown Chakra)
- Pineal gland (Third Eye Chakra)
- Thyroid gland (Throat Chakra)
- Thymus gland (Heart Chakra)
- Adrenal glands (Solar Plexus Chakra)
- Digestive & pancreatic glands (Sacral Chakra)
- Sexual glands (Root Chakra)
* The pineal gland is sometimes referred to as the crown chakra and the pituitary gland is sometimes referred to as the third eye chakra as their areas are linked and the glands cover similar roles in the mind and body.
When the energy centres are referred to, they are addressed from the bottom up. So, the root chakra is the first, sacral the second, solar plexus the third and so on. This is due to the flow of energy through the body. It starts at the bottom and rises to the top before circulating back down and repeating the circuit. This motion corresponds to the spinal fluid that circulates from the bottom of your spine to the brain and back. This usually happens twice daily but can be consciously moved in meditation (which I will address in this article).
Root Chakra Energy Centre
The first energy centre governs the region of your sex organs.
Reproduction and procreation, elimination, sexuality, and sexual identity are faculties of this chakra. The hormones oestrogen and progesterone in women and testosterone in men are correlated with this centre.
A crazy amount of creative energy exists here. The level is so high that we can literally create life from this centre. Think about that for a minute.
Energy gets trapped in this region when one is controlled by their sexual desires. Where attention goes, energy flows. Energy builds up in the areas we pay attention to most. So, if a lot of one's attention is on their sexual desires (especially if one cannot control these desires), energy is accumulated in this area and this in turn limits the energy that can access other chakras.
You have a finite amount of energy in your body, energy building up in any energy centre will drain the others, thus balance is necessary.
Sacral Chakra Energy Centre
The second energy centre is just below your belly button. Its purpose is linked with consumption, digestion, elimination, cleansing, and the breaking down of food into energy.
This centre grounds one in their environment. When this chakra is balanced one feels secure in their life and the world and their body is at harmony with itself.
An unbalanced sacral chakra can result in poor digestion, anxiety, fear, holding onto grudges, etc. This is due to the build up of stagnant energy in this area, holding on to lower vibrational energy, and this can even cause disease as the body is put at dis-ease.
Solar Plexus Chakra Energy Centre
This centre is located in the abdomen.
"It is associated with our will, power, self-importance, control, drive, aggression, and dominance. It is the centre of competitive action and personal power, self-esteem, and directed intention."
If this centre is not in balance, one will feel as though they are the victims of their circumstances and are caved in by circumstances in which they have no control. However, when it is in balance, you use your will and your drive to overcome circumstance and take control.
Heart Chakra Energy Centre
Located in the space behind your breastbone, this centre's main focus is on the heart.
The first three centres are all about survival and reflect our animal nature. But from hereon these energy centres begin to tap into traits of the higher self rather than are base desires.
This centre is associated with the emotions of love and caring, nurturing, compassion, gratitude, appreciation, kindness, inspiration, selflessness, wholeness and trust.
When the fourth centre is in balance, one's perspective is elevated from being focused on the individual, to being focused on the whole. Obviously the opposite is true when this centre is out of balance.
Throat Chakra Energy Centre
This energy centre is located in the centre of your throat.
It is mainly associated with expressing the love you feel in the fourth centre as well as speech, but also with speaking your truth and expressing positive energy through sound vibrations.
When the fifth energy centre is balanced, your voice represents truth, you speak your desires, and you spread good loving energy. When this centre is out of balance, one uses sound vibrations to insult and hurt others.
Third Eye Chakra Energy Centre
The sixth energy centre is located in the space between the back of your throat and the back of your head, it is a section on the inside of your brain which is home to the famous pineal gland.
It is associated with the door to higher levels of consciousness and shifting your perception so you see beyond the veil or surface level of reality.
"When this energy centre is opened, it's like a radio antenna you can use to tune into higher frequencies beyond the five senses. The pineal gland secretes hormones like serotonin and melatonin which are responsible for your circadian rhythms of feeling awake in response to visible light during the day and sleepy in response to being in darkness at night.
The pineal gland is also sensitive to all electromagnetic frequencies besides visible light and can produce corresponding chemical derivatives of melatonin that change your view of reality."
When this gland is in balance, your brain functions harmoniously. You are more tapped in to the correspondence of your inner and outer world.
When this chakra is out of balance, one takes face value reality as factual, has no faith and has very little to no independent thought. You will notice people with an unbalanced third eye chakra attribute a lot to luck and chance.
Crown Chakra Energy Centre
The seventh energy centre is located in the centre of your head and includes the pituitary gland. This gland has been named the master gland because it governs the circulation and flow of energy around the body from this centre of your brain through all the chakras to the root chakra and back up again.
When this chakra is balanced energy is flowing seamlessly through all energy centres in your body, there are no build ups of stagnant energy anywhere, you are in harmony with everything.
If this centre isn't balanced, it means there is blockages of energy throughout the body. This chakra is only balanced and energy can only properly access it when all other chakras are opened and balanced.
Meditation To Open The Energy Centres
Now, you will more than likely see one (or a few) of your energy centres are not balanced. This is the case for 99.9% of people. Not because it is incredibly difficult to balance and open energy centres, but because most people do not know they even exist. And out of those that do know they exist, a lot of what they know is mistaken.
It takes time to open energy centres, and a lifetime of maintenance to keep them balanced. No one is perfect and it is not a direct path of opening them and then becoming enlightened. Energy ebbs and flows from area to area, your goal is not to control and force energy, but to direct it with a simple push.
The bottom of your spine reaches the root chakra and the highest point reaches the crown chakra. There is a system in your body which pulls spinal fluid up from the root chakra to the crown and then circulates back down, up again, down again, and so on.
This is an automatic system governed by the subconscious mind that usually does a full circulation twice every 24 hours.
This circulation is the process that carries energy throughout the body with it. If any energy centre is out of balance, this process is also out of balance. Therefore it is necessary to do two things: A) open the energy centres to allow energy to flow through seamlessly, B) direct the flow of energy making sure no energy centre is ignored.
It is best to focus on one centre at a time with this meditation and to work your way through each centre after you feel content with them.
- Sit cross legged with a straight back.
- Set a timer for 15 minutes.
- Focus on the area around the root chakra and consciously feel love/gratitude.
- Tense the area at the bottom of the spine (in the centre of the front of the bottom of your torso and the back of the bottom of your torso). It will feel as though your are pulling up with the muscles.
- Pull this tension up to the stomach and pull the stomach in, to tense. Carry the loving energy from the root chakra to the centre of the body.
- Consciously feel the loving energy (spinal fluid) being carried from the centre of the body, to the head and then released back down to the bottom.
- Allow your breathing to find its own natural course as you practice, do not force anything with your breath.
- Once the above is carried out a few times, begin to focus on the energy centre that you believe needs work and direct loving attention towards it.
- Then practice moving your spinal fluid again. In between a full circulation, focus loving attention on said energy centre, then move your spinal fluid, then focus on said chakra, and so on for 15 minutes.
Practice once or twice a day while integrating behaviour and thoughts that will help balance said energy centre throughout the day. Do this until you feel ready to move on to the next chakra you feel the need to focus on.
