The Principle of Gender

"Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes." - The Kybalion.

The Principle of Gender is the final of the 7 Hermetic Principles. While being just as important as all the others, it is typically overlooked by many. In today's article we will be dissecting this Principle and gaining an understanding of why it is so key in understanding our reality. Let's begin.

Gender And Sex

To start, it's important I outline the difference between gender and sex. Don't worry, I'm not trying to make you change genders or anything like that 🤣 I just need to show you the difference for your understanding to be whole.

Gender, from a Hermetic perspective, and sex aren't the same thing. Sex is merely a manifestation of the Principle of Gender. 

It is easy for us to get caught up in physical reality and deem it as absolute, but this taints our perspective and gives us a bias towards the physical. By now you should know anything you experience on the physical is a product of the mental, a manifestation of something higher. Sex is no exception. 

The Principle of Gender manifests everywhere, the sexes of humans and animals being a manifestation. Masculine and feminine are the two poles of the Principle of Gender.

But it goes much further than this. Gender manifests in atoms, electricity, the mind, characteristics, colours, nature, everywhere.

Atoms have protons which carry positive chargers and electrons which carry negative charges (positive equates to masculine, negative to feminine). Without the harmony between the two oppositely charged particles, the atom would be unbalanced and problematic. 

Same with human characteristics, we all consist of masculine and feminine energy. It's our job to harmonise these two energies to balance ourselves out with what feels right. 

The Duality of Mind

It is obvious to us that we incorporate two minds within one, the conscious and the subconscious. For as long as these two minds have been known this has been understood as the 'duality of mind'.

Our brain also includes two major sides; the right and left hemispheres.

As you can imagine, the Principle of Gender manifests here as well.

The conscious mind is the masculine while the subconscious is the feminine. The left hemisphere of the brain (the logical, analytic side) is masculine, while the right hemisphere (the creative, intuitive side) is feminine.

For the mind and brain to operate harmoniously, one must have each hemisphere and each mind balanced alongside the other. If someone is dominant on one side more than the other they can be subject to some serious issues.

For example, if an individual has a weak conscious mind, their subconscious can easily be manipulated and this can lead to the literal mind control and brainwashing of a person. When people are being hypnotised, their conscious mind is being put to sleep so the hypnotist attains as much direct connection with the subconscious as possible. Dwell on this for a minute and see if you can see this reflect anywhere.

There are a lot of external influences that will attack certain parts of your brain and mind. For example, some advertisers decide to use emotional triggers in their adverts to capture your emotional side, with this you're not thinking too logically and you may be subject to impulse buys. This is only a small degree of manipulation. You know I'm not the biggest fan of the media, they're very tactical with manipulating the brain and mind. 

The Masculine Conscious And The Feminine Subconscious

So, as I've previously illustrated, the conscious mind is masculine and the subconscious mind is feminine.

You may be curious as to why one is masculine and the other is feminine. It is not my opinion, it is simply a product of nature. Allow me to explain:

Feminine energy is more creative, emotionally in tune, intuitive, more focused on people, more focused on care, etc.

Masculine energy is more deterministic, focused on 'things', more focused on providing and protecting, less emotionally in tune but more rational (not rational as in 'smart', but simply more focused on bypassing emotions than being influenced by them), etc.

So, it is only right we ascribe the term 'masculine' or 'feminine' to whichever exhibits the corresponding energy or nature, correct?

So, like I just said, it's not opinion, it's simply how nature has structured itself.

Impress and Express

Now, using the information above, it is time to apply and see how the two minds work together.

The subconscious mind is known by some as the 'womb' of creation. It is likened to a womb as it is the place in which ideas are nourished and generated.

At this point it might be interesting to note that the word 'gender' comes from the Latin root meaning 'to beget', 'to generate'.

Anyway, the conscious mind is the storehouse of the 'will'. The will is what you talk about when you want to do something (you will to do something). It is the same term used in the word 'willpower'.

The conscious mind wills the subconscious mind to generate ideas.

The conscious mind impresses the subconscious mind with how it feels about a certain idea, the subconscious mind picks this up and seeks to express the idea into reality. 

This is why gratitude is imperative in manifestation. To be grateful for something is the same as saying you have something. If your goal is a £1bn company, you must embody the gratitude of reaching that goal in the present moment as a present achievement. The subconscious mind receives your gratitude for this achievement and seeks to get to work on creating all the opportunities and circumstances necessary for you to actualise this achievement in material reality. Your job is to then follow through with the necessary action on the physical while you nurture the idea on the mental.
