The Principle of Polarity
Added 2022-01-30 13:17:09 +0000 UTC"Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." - The Kybalion
This law is the fourth Hermetic Principle, the Principle of Polarity. At first glance it may seem paradoxical or confusing, but upon further evaluation it is very easy to grasp. It is actually very closely tied with the Principle of Vibration as you will see.
Opposites
Obviously when we think of opposites we think of two separate things that are completely different to each other. While this is exactly what opposites are, there is also a hidden link between all opposites that has a very metaphysical sense to it.
In everything there are two poles (or opposite aspects) and opposites are actually only the two extremes of the same thing, with many varying degrees between them. For example, hot & cold are two poles of temperature, opposite in degree but identical in nature.
Everything you can think of is not absolute, it has degrees to it, degrees that increase to the 'positive pole' and degrees that decrease to the 'negative pole'.
Positive and negative don't necessarily mean good or bad, they're merely the terminology used to describe the two ends of something's polarity. The higher a 'thing' is in degree, the more positive it is and vice versa. For example, cold temperatures can go so low that they literally go negative on thermometers (eg. -4℃).
Following on from last week's article about the Principle of Vibration; Poles are simply forms, varieties and rates of Vibration. For example, hot/cold is different to love/hate in form, variety and rate of Vibration.
Physical/Mental/Spiritual
Using the Principle of Correspondence, we can see that this principle manifests on all planes; Physical, Mental and Spiritual.
On the mental plane, we can see it in the emotions of love & hate, both being opposites but the same in nature. One extreme is love, the other is hate, and in between these two extremes are different degrees such as like and dislike. The positive pole is love, the negative is hate.
This principle gets even more interesting when we apply it to mind. As humans, we have our finite minds and (due to our understanding of metaphysics) we know there is the Universal Mind of The ALL. This principle applies in that our finite minds are the lower end of the pole and Universal Mind is the higher end. The higher we raise our vibration the closer we become to Universal Mind.
This is also why the higher your mental vibration becomes, the stronger your intuition becomes. You become more and more connected to Universal Mind which makes it easier to receive desirable thoughts/ideas and it is also easier to manifest these thoughts into physical reality.
This principle applies with matter (physical plane) and spirit (spiritual plane) as well. All planes are actually one, vibrating at different degrees thus manifesting as different 'planes'.
The Principle of Polarity explains many paradoxes such as how our universe is both finite and infinite. It is finite in the nature that it is always expanding. Because for it to expand it has to grow large, it has to add to itself (or multiply), but infinity cannot be increased so it can't be infinite. However, it is held in the infinite living mind of The ALL which is creating in an infinite manor hence why the universe is always expanding. The paradox of our infinite universe is merely the differing degrees of polarity between the different planes of manifestation all emanating from The ALL.
Manifestation
The utility of this principle is that it gives one an understanding that nothing is absolute, change is constant and there are many degrees of one 'thing'. With this understanding and enough use, one can change mental vibrations at will from one pole to another. This is called 'Mental Alchemy'.
Each 'thing' belongs to its own class. One cannot transmute love to cold or dark to soft, but transmuting from hate to love and cold to hot is evidently possible. All that is required is will.
"The change is not in the nature of a transmutation of one thing into another thing entirely different - but is merely a change of degree in the same things, a vastly important difference." - The Kybalion.
A change of degree rather than kind.
This Principle ties in with the Principle of Vibration and both of these principles also come together with the Principle I will be talking about in next week's post. Refer to the 'Manifestation' section of the 'Principle of Polarity' article if you are wanting to see the link between this Principle and the one previous.
Have a blessed day, everyone 💎
