Huge JCBBB fan. My go to band in college. Sheer coincidence in sound with Bruce as I first saw JCBBB open for Geils in 1975 in Boston. They were a mainstay at Toads Place in New Haven in the 70's. They picked up momentum during Bruce's hiatus/lawsuit with his manager and did a radio show from the Bottom Line in 1977 when JC proclaimed, ' my first album is a boot leg". Bruce was a friend with the band and often joined them for surprise encores. John credits Bruce for helping him with his songwriting. For years no one would give them a deal because they sounded so much like Bruce, Then the madness of the movie, which tanked in the theaters made them overnight sensations when it was a hit on cable. Suddenly they're all over MTV, hosting Dick Clark's NYE and making albums. (well, two actually) It really seemed as if I was living in bizarro world.

LMAO The Anders from Logic Pro reference is such a deep cut. I'm literally laughing. my. ass. off. 🀣

β€œAlright, we’re doing stuff here” after the Poison breakdown. That made me laugh. Great stuff, Pat.

How can you even decide what to cut? It's all magic! Keep it up, man, and I hope the hot sauce sales are through the roof.

The DDCCDC I think comes from how easy it is to play while maintaining a RLRL sticking pattern on 16th nodes between the hat and snare. F the haters. Long ass WMTSSs for life

My hypothesis for the do do cha cha cha do cha epidemic in the 90's: By the late 1980's, the most ubiquitous hip hop sample was the James Brown Funky Drummer break. Then in 1989, the hugely influential Pixies released La La Love You on Doolittle, which is do do cha cha cha do cha in it's purest form. (A sad imitation of Clyde Stubblefield). Grunge musicians who rightly appreciate funk and soul music but only have grunge chops. I was there, and I participated--I'm just glad someone is finally talking about it.

I've argued at many a bar that the bass in Soul to Squeeze was the best thing out of not only Flea, but the band as a whole. Thanks for that, Pat.

ProfessorComrade

Nice!!

drummer here, i've do do cha cha cha do cha'ed a good amount of times.

No Code's good. Anders is a legend, I'm an Ian man myself, what a lad. One day when i was in high school this guy brought his acoustic guitar to school and played Every Rose Has its Thorn in science class. This was in like 2009

the best
