This is just behind-the-scenes stuff + sneak peeks stuff 😙
And I'll put the sneak peek stuff far down at the bottom of the page! â¤ï¸
I'll do a few of these leading up to the next release <3
I'm working hard on the next chapter -- my time is a little short, but y'all's support allows me, and spurs me on, to continue working on it. And I'm making good progress! This chapter focus is the reason the Patreon specials are a little sparse now, but they will soon be more plentiful again â¤ï¸
Some background on Mrs Hudson's life before Sherlock:
Mrs Hudson's late husband was a wealthy, older, working-class man. She, as a young woman, came to work as a maid in his household, the townhouse you all live in now. She was really rather pretty, he was rather charming (or rich)... and she became involved with him. (Something she set out to do). Even if she often remarked to him in a mock scandalous tone how he had taken advantage of an innocent young woman of five and twenty.
They soon married. And they loved each other dearly until the day he died.
A scene of Mrs H telling you of her late husband that I don't know if I will ever be able to fit in the game, so I might as well post it here:
â€He made me with child, and we had to wed. Now, in the end, that part of our lives wasn’t meant to be. But then he was already stuck with me! No, no, I am only jesting—I had that man around my finger... and I liked him very well there.
... The truth is, I miss him terribly. Every day. But, now I have you. And Watson. And Horatio. All to keep me company. It is not so bad, I don't think. It is a full life. One I cherish.â€
Her husband had set up something on his deathbed. He had arranged so that, a few weeks after he had gone, a delivery of a kitten would appear. With a letter from him. "Something to keep her company when he could not". Horatio, she named her new cat, after his middle name.
Her marriage is one of the reasons why Mrs Hudson pushes H so much (either platonically or romantically) onto MC. It worked out so well for her, so she wants to see you happy and well taken care of when she's gone.
She's also a snob (in the modern meaning) and wants to get further in society or to live through you a little. So... some of that too. (I never said she was a saint).
(Bonus: My main inspiration for Mrs Hudson is Mrs Bennet from Pride & Prejudice, mixed in with some Kitty from The 70's Show, and some people I know IRL... which I can't say who... 😬🫢)

Some breadcrumbs for the main plot + possibly a red herring or two:
You can figure out the main plot twist already, to a good level of proof. But no one has... (One person was real close once tho...)
The birds!
Frank the coachman will return when you most/least need him.
The prologue and the case Lestrade is working on ðŸ§
Sometimes the people closest to you act awfully strange.
Conspiracies, conspiracies...
So many letters these days.
What if people are exactly what they seem?
There's actually less than you suspect, but more thank you know.

Chapter 6.1 sneak peeks
(There are two versions of this scene, one where H can come to pick you up themselves ofc. So I thought to show the non-H one).
There is a knock at the door.
*page_break
There stands a man in a navy greatcoat and a pristine top hat. He nods deeply and asks in the gravely assured tone of a man who already knows he has the right individual before him. “Miss/mr/mx Holmes, I presume?†Even the shoes are terribly polished for a man who works near mud and horses. “I’ve come to escort your group to the evening’s ball—by the courtesy of Sir/Lady ${full_nameH}.â€
The man steps back and to the side. This allows both the cold wind in and you a good view of the large carriage—four horses and a heavy gilded frame. No expenses were spared. None at all…
Mrs Hudson will be entirely pleased.
*page_break
Watson’s steps are quick as they come down the stairs. You, in turn, step back and give some room away from the door-frame, just in time for their smile to turn to a glare when they notice the carriage.
“Sherlock... Tell me if I am far too uninformed on current standards—but are gentlemen/ladies not generally thought to seek virtue?†They give you a passing glance as they walk up to your side, then levies their eyes forward, out the door once more. "Is it pride, greed, or gluttony to covet all too much?" John/Jane whispers in your ear.
"Greed would be the typical answer,†you return to Watson's complaint about the owner of one extravagant carriage.
You see them look at you then, in the corner of your eye. For a far too long, quiet moment.
On the other version of the scene, there's... a lot more LT stuff! 🥳
Also, there are a few scenes that only happen if H comes to pick you up, so I almost recommend saying yes if you want more content from W!
Random sneak peek:
Their voice is a little lower. "As much as I do not wish to invite or encourage scandal..." Something in their tone and too-direct stare makes you question some part of that statement's truth, but which part... you are quite unsure of.
