Big Changes Under the Hood

Hey all...

Quick render update for Raina's 1st animation: Rendering frame 6377 of 7600.

So I am doing some things differently for Raina's 2nd animation.  I rigged her legs of course.. And I re-rigged her arms.  I did this because I wasn't happy with the deformations I was getting in the first animation.  Her original arms were all done with soft body sims reacting to a skinny core armature.  This time around everything is done by hand and this is giving me more control over how her arm deforms as it bends.

Additionally I've been using soft body sims for lats and her pecs for the past four or five characters.  These were always problem areas with rigging because of so many moving parts that can influence things.  Well this time around I feel I have cracked the code, so to speak.  I'm able to rig things directly using no sims.  I will still use sims on her hair and boobs (for future characters that have boobs).  To me, the biggest difference will be in the chest.  When the character raises her arms the chest should be pulled up along with the arms.  When I used soft bodies it really didn't do this so well.  There will be other benefits but I will save those for later.  The bottom line is I am pretty excited about the improved deformation dynamics we will see going forward.

I am thinking Raina's 2nd animation will not have muscle growth.  Her rig is getting a major overhaul for this 2nd animation and growth takes so much more time so maybe her 3rd animation can have growth -in the interest of trying to get caught up.

Anyway I will show another tech demo when I get all of these complex areas finished up.  More to come!
