[Ad-Free] The First Ever Neurodivergent-Friendly Conference

Hello, Brains! This one's posted a bit late due to today being quite busy but here is the ad-free version of today's video! But I do have a question... I've been doing some research into ensuring videos are ad-free... but I'm reading that even if we turn monetization off... ads can still sometimes get added. If at any point you are getting ads on a video that's supposed to be ad-free can you let us know? This way if we need to adjust how we handle ad-free videos, we can!

-------

NeuroDiversion set out to be a neurodivergent-friendly conference experience, and they invited me to speak at their first-ever event! But how did it go? How was it neurodivergent-friendly? What did work? What didn't work? What did others think and feel about this event? Well... I'll tell you!

I knew I forgot to do something last week! Thank you!!!! Omg. AAAHHHHHH I can't believe I forgot to finish captions! Yeah we usually ensure the captions are fixed same day (and if we can't then we do it the very next day) with goals of hoping to have it done before it even releases at all. So we're *definitely* working towards that for sure. (Getting it professional done is something we currently lack resources for , alas.) Because trying to post the video across social media, respond to comments, AND handle subtitles all in the same morning is uh... hard! Harder still when you're short-staffed for the day 😅 But thank you a million times over for pointing it out because now I can actually go *finish* them. (Hi hello yes I am one of those auditory processing people too so I totally get it.) - Harley, Community Manager of How to ADHD

How to ADHD

Such a neat event! I hope they continue to run it! A note about the video itself: I noticed a number of incorrect words in the captions, many that perhaps were interpreted by an automatic caption program to be a different word than was said. Unfortunately, most of them were key words ('easy' instead of 'ADHD', 'ordered' instead of 'AuDHD', etc). The caption mis-match made watching the video frustrating (I stopped to start this comment before you even got to the event in the video, for more context). A lot of the grammar was also disjointed or ran multiple sentences together as one long sentence. Sometimes words were missing (one time a whole phrase!) They are definitely better than YouTube automated captions. But I know I'm not the only ADHD viewer who uses captions to help with audio processing (or that is Deaf!), so it was pretty disappointing to see on a video about a place that was so accessible. I know there are people out there doing captions professionally (I myself did them a number of years ago), so it would be really cool if getting the captions checked before they go live could be added as a goal for the future!

Ritt!
