News Brief: How US Media Obscures the Violence of the Generic, Sterile-Sounding "Border Deal"

Comments

Weird that dems would offer up a 'pathway' carrot for people whom have already journeyed thousands of miles to get here and do shit jobs.

No need to apologize, thank you for your this insightful comment. Was wondering how this is playing out in GOTV-adjacent activists orgs. Seems grim

so i’ve had a front-row seat to the immigrant justice advocacy space for the last year or so for work, and it’s such a dark depressing space atm…even orgs that exclusively exist to re-elect Biden were balking at the “compromise” bill. I was told that one such high profile immigration org that didn’t want to come out in support had to be told by funders that they do not exist to “care for migrants,” but to get a bipartisan immigration bill passed. that shouldn’t be news to these orgs who’ve worked hand-in-hand with the Admin the last few years, but it’s been a rude wake up call to many in the movement who know they will now be asked by Biden world to help turn out the Latino vote over the next 9 months. also, these orgs have always been aware of how “weak” Biden is on this issue, so their MO of late had been to advocate for a “comprehensive” immigration approach that combines enforcement with pathways to citizenship (they’ve polled and message tested this shit to hell). many of these orgs are lost and have no idea where their federal work goes from here, but they also know if Trump gets elected, the money will come pouring in from funders. anyway sorry for the long comment, big fan of the pod & have been for years. just wanted to share some insider info lol
