The PDF Creator

Hey Everyone!

I know most of us are in a weird space right now with the pandemic forcing us to move most (if not all) of our games online, but I wanted to give a quick a dirty run down the PDF Creator feature on the Printable Heroes website as it looks like from the last poll I just did that a fair number of people haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

This is something we've been prototyping on the website that will let you customize your own page layout to save out as a PDF or print directly from the website. It's still in beta and not all of the older miniatures are supported yet (though every new miniature will be).

You can access it from a couple different places:

Here,

and here,

If you're not seeing that "Add to Page+" button on on the miniature preview that likely that miniature just hasn't been updated to support the PDF Creator yet. I'll be update older minis in between everything else. If there's something specific you need feel free to ping me in the Discord channel and I'll try to bump it up in priority.

Right now it's pretty bare bones; you can add minis to the layout from the main catalog or you can use the search function in the PDF Creator to look up minis and drag them over to the page layout. There's a checkbox for adding the black borders (Show Silhouettes) and you can drag minis over to the trash can icon to remove them form the page.

This is a feature we're pretty excited about developing further and it's my hope that once we're able to start playing back at tabletops again it'll be a useful tool for many of you to save paper and print exactly what you want on the page.

Please feel free to leave thoughts/feedbacks below.

Cheers!

Sorry, just saw the line about your plans to add them between other creations - that answers my question.

Are there any plans to get the old minis available for the pdf creator? I print at a Staples kiosk, so the "premade" sheets don't really work because I cannot interact with the sheet beforehand (to add the black background effect, for instance). What kinda sucks, is that some of the most common monsters (base goblins and zombies, for example) have been unavailable to me because they're the oldest minis in the catalogue.

Hi Sky, did you just sign up at the Champions Tier today? If so then this is likely caused by a delay on Patreon's end with fully updating the data for new patrons that it shares with my website; this seems to happen only on the 1st of every month and it should resolve itself within the next few hours (usually by 5pm PST I've noticed). Please let me know if you're still unable to access the correct content later tonight.

PrintableHeroes

I joined at the Champions tier and when I sign into your site, it says I am still at the free level and can't access the PDF creator or any of the higher tier minis.

Sky Gewant

Cool stuff, I'll try that out next time. Is it just me or isn't there any hero options for low-level (hero) characters? All the heroes look so buff and equipped and there are a lot of monsters but not as many heroes

Hi! I just joined the Patreon and WOW - there is al lot of fantastic miniatures here and with the PDF Creator it´s a breeze to get exactly what you want printed! EXCELLENT!

I've been using the PDF creator since learning about it from this and your other post - it's been great! Thank you for all of the wonderful features!

Laura

I just got a chance to try this out. It's brilliant!! I can't wait until all the minis are uploaded!!

The PDF creator is great, saves me a lot of time compiling the .jpgs into my own PDFs for printing. Suggestions for features: 1) Build a function to allow for flipping the direction the mini is facing. 2) Build a function for rotating the mini on the PDF page so we can maximize the page surface. Other than that, this is a fantastic feature, thanks for adding it to the website!

Dan

Are you kidding me, this is the best thing since sliced bread, because I get to pick and choose the slices

The PDF creator is fantastic for getting the minis you need.

I use the PDF creator feature quite a bit to save photo paper and ink by printing only the minis I need for an upcoming session. It's a great feature!

This pdf creator is a great feature and would use it more often if the older designs would also have the "Add to page" button. Example: The human bartender. I do enjoy all of your designs and print them on A4 photo paper with a minimum of 170g thickness. They look amazing! I would really like to ask you for some more random human / dwarf and elf town or city patrons. Paper mini's to crowd your Inn type of stuff XD! Thanks

Herman Honderd

Oh man, I have some fun stuff in the works for you... XD

Ah, that is great feedback. I'll have to think of the best way to implement something like that. I sometimes worry about just throwing so many files under each miniature entry that it can get confusing, but I can definitely see how having pog-style tokens for print would be very useful.

PrintableHeroes

This is a great feature and I appreciate you educating us on its existence via email. It would be great if we could add the VTT-style images to the pdf creator. I use them for Sly-flourish "Crafting Lazy Monster Token" technique minis.

I don't know how I missed this. I'm getting into Rangers of the Shadowdeep and will finally get to start using your designs!

Very exited about this. will help me print out minis for my players characters without extra work or wasted paper

They Were Monsters

Awesome! I've been wishing for something like this since I first started backing! Most of my games have moved to online, but I just started playing with my family and this'll be so helpful when I get back to printing minis!

Adrian Orlando

This is amazing! I didn't know it was there, and have been wishing I knew how to do....exactly what this does. Thanks so much for making this tool!

Laura

It is a cool feature as I have been doing this in Photoshop... I dont use a home printer to print my figures... I dont currently own a printer and I find it much better quality to run down to my local supermarket and use the instant photo printer they have its quite cheap also... I have been printing on 130x180mm photos but to do this I have been copying them accross to photoshop to create my layouts... this gives me 2 to 6 figures per photo (0,60€ a print) As the PDF Creator is limited to A4, A3 and Letter and It would be a great feature if it could have a "Custom size" functionality

Great feature. I've always done it myself, but it'll save me hell of a lot time.

Es fantástico... Una gran herramienta. Gracias

José María (Overdaus)

You mean I taught myself to do this in Photoshop for nothing??

Thank you so much for constantly improving the experience of using your service. This is fantastic.

Yes! This is something we're looking at adding support for; Patrons being able to save and share encounters/pages etc

PrintableHeroes

Making something like this also generate cutfiles would be very helpful. If you could output outline DXF, that would work...

OldSchoolDM

Oh this will be so so useful once we can play in person again.

I love this feature, and use it a s much as possible, saves me a ton of paper and ink.I would love it if there could be a mirror/rotating option, or maybe even a scaling option. It could be awesome if you could make a kingcrab yourself, by scaling a normal crab miniature.

Bekim Maksuti

Love the PDF creator. It truly saves me lots of paper and time when I’m batch printing. Would be nice to be able to look at other peoples’ created pages so as to essentially have premade encounters all set and ready to go.

I voted “I don’t know,” but after you clarified in this post, I DO know. I change my vote. I LOVE this feature. It’s so much easier on my printer.

William Richardson

This is awesome. I will definitely be taking advantage of this feature.
