Ideas for New Tier Rewards
Added 2017-03-16 21:57:40 +0000 UTCHi Everyone!
I'm hoping to add a couple new Tier Rewards down the road to bridge the gap from the $3 to the $10 and I wanted to see what kind of things you guys would be interested in? What miniature related content would you love to have that might be worth an extra $1 or two a month? Beyond just the obvious, "more minis!" which is already a primary goal of mine just in general :)
Things I'm thinking of already:
- Cutfiles - this has been a common request from Patrons with cutting machines and it's the closest to going live - I just need to make sure my setup will work across multiple cut file software/machines.
- Patron Directed Minis - Patrons at this tier level would get included in the design process for a miniature each month. In practice I imagine we'd pool everyone's ideas, then I'd do a round of rough sketches for several of them, patrons would vote on which one we move forward with, then i'd follow up with refined version, possible reskin or alternate options, and then do another vote for which options get finalized.
A couple general note for Tier Reward ideas:
I'd like to stay away from doing exclusive miniatures - a core prinicple of PrintableHeroes for me is making miniatures (and the table-top games they support) more accessible. Ideal reward goals should serve as extra perks or enchanced experiences.
Anyhow, I'd love to hear what else you guys might be interested in.
Thanks!

Allow me to lend my voice to vote for cut files. I would love to have them.

2017-04-21 15:48:08 +0000 UTCI'm starting a new party and one of the members is a penguin sorcerer with a backpack, it would be very nice of you to draw him xD The other members are a rogue elf, a halfling druid and a human warlock, who's desperately fallen in love with a succubus :D

2017-04-02 18:43:06 +0000 UTCTotally! I've been looking into making some scenery in more or less the manner you describe. It serves a double purpose for me as I'm finding I need some more fancy backdrops for the demo pictures I'm making when I release / show off the minis. In general though I think I can handle releasing any props/environments through the Tiers I already have; Free version without backviews, Tier 1 gets backviews, Tier 2 gets art variants, Tier 3 gets recolors options, and Tier 10 getting source PSD files.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-21 17:52:42 +0000 UTCI might work my way to 3D paper models, but I'm planning to start out with simple facades and props. At the moment my intention is to release them in the sample manner that I handle normal minis: Free version without backviews, Tier 1 gets backviews, Tier 2 gets art variants, Tier 3 gets recolors options, and Tier 10 getting source PSD files.

2017-03-21 17:50:28 +0000 UTCYeah, cut files are coming down the pipe - since I use them anyhow to test print minis I just need to get a good process/format down that will work across multiple cut machines/software.

2017-03-21 17:46:12 +0000 UTCI like the idea of dungeon dressing props, objects and perhaps some terrain? How about building facades like they used on the fronts of wild west towns? Normally, just a square box of a building but often with a fancy front. How about some simple stand-up items like caryatid columns, fancy entrance ways, piles of barrels or boxes or boulders. You could offer a set of dungeon trappings, a set for the torture chamber, a set for the castle dungeon or a cave system. What figures would I see if I had to stop at a farm for the night? Trees, rocks, a pier, how about some boats large or small? what other set pieces would be fun to have? Just a bunch of stufgf off the top of my head.

2017-03-21 17:41:19 +0000 UTCWhat about 3D paper models like Fat Dragon puts out? Or terrain enhancements and dungeon features?

2017-03-21 03:11:26 +0000 UTCCUT FILES! Beyond that, to be honest, I'm foggy on the current tier levels and what is possible with Patreon. Generally, I'm not interested in recolors and variants. The exception is having multiple poses. I've purchased paper miniatures from One Monk and what I like about his offerings is that (1) cut files come standard and (2) he sells sets that can be used for building armies. These set tend to include a variety of posses so that all the minis in the army are not entirely uniform. Maybe you could partner with Arcknight and make your miniatures available as high-quality 2d plastic miniatures. That might make more sense as a Kickstarter though. I don't know that you would have enough high-level patrons to fund this on an ongoing basis.

2017-03-21 03:10:37 +0000 UTCSimple flames/in different colours, or stars, or even smoke?

2017-03-20 21:28:54 +0000 UTCEssentially miniature "Bling"? Ha, that could be fun. What kind of magical/borders do you have in mind? Might be difficult to do anything too complex since the border shape would change with each mini
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-20 20:38:59 +0000 UTCFor a $5 tier reward, perhaps a custom effect highlight. Having a black border is great but surrounding the mini with magical or custom boarders would be a nice addition.

2017-03-20 20:33:19 +0000 UTCI like the Patron directed route. I agree with the I'd love more quantity, just so i can pepper my maps with multiple enemies sort of things.

2017-03-19 15:12:05 +0000 UTCYeah, I'll reconsider how I've been approaching setting up my source files and look into doing individual weapon/head elements. Not promising anything for it yet, but might be something I could start doing in the future without burning too much extra time.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-19 07:03:09 +0000 UTCYeah, what you describe for the treasure chest/mimic is how i'd probably do it, which i can handle within the tiers I already have; the mimic is a reskin of the chest and would fall under the tier 2+ rewards.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-19 07:00:04 +0000 UTCFair enough. At the moment I think adding a Patron Directed Mini a month tier will be the best of both worlds; more minis for everyone, and those that care to get more involved with the design process have an opportunity to.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-19 06:57:59 +0000 UTCAlternate color borders would be neat. It would be cool to make a boss monster's outline red or another color. I also feel, if more obscure races (I'm partial to 5E Kenku) with various weapons and generic clothing as opposed to specific classes would make me more inclined to go from $3 to $10. I think a lot of your minis have potential to be used alternatively if they just had different held items and weapons
Andrew Cartwright
2017-03-18 21:38:35 +0000 UTCI agree on the race options bit. It'd be nice to get some minis of the more niche races.
David Ramey
2017-03-18 20:39:19 +0000 UTCAlso, as for what you mentioned about cutfiles, I was actually thinking about investing in a cutting machine just because I found out about paper minis and now it's sort of blown up. I would most definitely pay extra for the option to have them.
Jess R
2017-03-18 20:27:47 +0000 UTCI would actually gladly pay an extra $1 a month for customization options on the minis. I really liked the hairstyle on the recent cleric mini with the staff but wanted the hammer and shield as weapons. So I guess if I could choose between different hairstyles or even a sword instead of a hammer that would be worth it in my opinion. I think I would also be willing to pay $2-$3 more for some race options.
Jess R
2017-03-18 20:22:07 +0000 UTCI'd actually like some object minis, that's a pretty cool idea. Makes it easy to start crafting your own dungeon tile set, because all you need are the tiles, then you can print out bookcases, desks, and chests. Also of note is that the Mystic was just released in full 20 levels, so maybe some psionic characters at some point?
David Ramey
2017-03-18 18:40:52 +0000 UTCI suspect most people interested in your work don't have cutting machines, so cutfiles seem sort of unnecessary. Patron-directed minis, on the other hand, allow patron input, which should please everyone involved on this end. I second the vote for inanimate objects; I don't fully understand how your concern about higher-tier monsters applies to them, but you could always make important things like treasure chests or coffins low-tier, and give mimic reskins at a higher tier. That way everyone gets to use the objects, and people who want mimics can either use the objects as they are, or pay extra for the real deal. Is that the sort of thing you were hoping for?
thelibraryghost
2017-03-17 16:54:46 +0000 UTCThe quality is great and I think right now the only desire for me is more quantity. I'd prefer you focus on getting more minis out each month and not slow the process down with support for additional tiers. Maybe add borders to those earlier minis and package them into pdfs.
2017-03-17 11:03:49 +0000 UTCIf I understand your question correctly, then yes. If you're already subscribed to a higher tier then you'd get access to any new tiers that were created at a lower tier then the one you already subscribe to.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-17 02:39:36 +0000 UTCI like the idea. Would these fall into tiers that we already pay. I'm in the 10 a month because I love your work.
Andy Green
2017-03-17 01:31:38 +0000 UTCYeah, I'm just not sure how to best include props/tiles/extra minis into tier rewards without making them feel too exclusive - the situation I want to avoid is where I end up doing a monster or something for a higher tier reward and so i never get around to doing a free/lower tier version for everyone else to use because I'd already created it, but I can't release the original one because then that cheapens the reward for the higher tier patrons :/
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-16 22:52:16 +0000 UTCAbsolutely! The goal for me would be to try to include patrons in the whole process and run a poll/vote for all of the major decisions from subject, pose, all the way through to what reskin and recolor options.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-16 22:49:23 +0000 UTCI like the idea of patron directed mini's. Maybe you provide a few rough drafts that can then be voted on and most votes win
2017-03-16 22:46:11 +0000 UTCTotally, I'd foresee this falling under and being a part of the Patron Directed Mini process.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-16 22:43:24 +0000 UTCThis kind of fits into the "MOOAR MINI'S"... but some small terrain items would be nice to have. Rocks, tree's, maybe small ruins.
DnDice
2017-03-16 22:35:44 +0000 UTCPerhaps each month/set there'd be a patron-voted reskin/recolor?
Sean vas Terra
2017-03-16 22:35:08 +0000 UTC+1 for Cutfiles! Not that I even own a cutting machine... maybe one day! But its the only painful thing about these fantastic mini's.
DnDice
2017-03-16 22:20:58 +0000 UTCHey Travis, are you thinking a compiled sheet released each month of previously released minis? At the moment my temporary fix for this is to include the individual PNGs so you guys can mix and match them to fill out your own sheets - however this does require some software that is capable laying out multiple PNG files.
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-16 22:19:06 +0000 UTCMaybe at the $5 mark you could have compiled sheets? Unless I missed the ability to do it now but having 4 mages is not incredibly useful to me, but having a mage an assassin and a owlbear (or whatever) in a single sheet would be useful.. or even just one large PDF with all current works to date.
2017-03-16 22:12:45 +0000 UTCHey Mark, were you able to try the cutfiles I'd attached to this post? <a href="https://www.patreon.com/posts/paper-cut-files-8063390">https://www.patreon.com/posts/paper-cut-files-8063390</a> If how, how'd they work for you?
PrintableHeroes
2017-03-16 22:07:53 +0000 UTCI think more animal or monster enemies like wolves and giant bars eagles ECT...
2017-03-16 22:06:17 +0000 UTCI'm interested in the patron-directed minis
David Ramey
2017-03-16 22:04:15 +0000 UTCI'm definitely interested in cutfiles.
