Creative Process (III)

What happens when you have a group scene with a lot of characters (even if they aren't on screen)?

The loading time is way higher than the rendering time. Yesterday I scheduled 267 images to render. Some of them have up to 16 characters on screen plus one or two hidden. It's faster to pose the images if I have all the characters in the file and then switch which are visible in every frame.

But the downside is that, when you start rendering, you get horrible loading times, almost 6 minutes loading the scene file and only 1-3 minutes to render it.

Since rendering is an automated process that doesn't consume my in-front-of-the-screen time, I prefer to do a faster posing; that way I can do bigger queues in the dedicated rendering computer. Even if it's almost 20h to do 202 of the 267 renders. In those 20 hours, I've posed 88 extra renders, spent time with my wife, slept, ate, etc. And The Beast (the rendering computer) has been working non-stop.

Cooling is a pain. I've had problems with overheating with my pc so I can't imagine what type of cooler you have or what type of loop if it's that

Rendering kills the computer performance, so doing anything besides render is counterproductive and unnerving. I work on two computers right now. The Original is with what I did everything up to v.0.12, so it was powerful enough to do ONE thing at a time (but not scenes with a lot of characters without optimization). I use it now to do everything besides rendering. I write, code, and pose. I also work on it for my job, when I do home office, connecting it remotely to my office computer. When I have a big enough queue of posed renders (usually over 60 or when The Beast finishes the previous queue) I send them to render (the Render Queue is one of the best plugins I bought) to The Beast. Then I can continue posing while it renders. The biggest downside is heat. I haven't turned on the heater in my home-office during the winter. When outside we were at 4-5ºC, I was comfortably at 20-22ºC. I turned on the A/C when the temperature reached 25ºC. In Winter 😉 I'm scared about how it will work in Summer.

I'll keep that in mind for if I ever get off my lazy behind and get into coding or improve my artistic abilities to also try avns

The Beast is the computer I bought in September thanks to your support. I don't use it for anything but rendering (it doesn't have any software installed beyond Daz Studio and its libraries), and it's only turned on when I have something to render. I bought the best computer available for rendering, although I should upgrade its RAM if I continue doing this kind of scene. 128GB RAM gets full in no time with the Daz system.

Good thing your computer can handle heavy loads unlike mine it's been dead twice in two months lol
